The Bejeweled Reach
The Bejeweled Reach is an area of Agelua that exists as a largely uncharted archipelago, blanketed by an atmospheric phenomenon known as the Bejeweled Mist that requires special equipment to navigate.
Because of this, cartography attempts are greatly hampered and the usual navigation beacons that are used throughout Anira are ineffective in guiding airships. Only skilled navigators and extremely aether-sensitive Lanthir can succesfully navigate this area.
The Holy Kingdom of Agni is extremely interested in understanding the region, and through the Agnias Adventurer's Guild, has constructed up the Alexandrite Forward Operating Base in order to assist adventurers in exploring the area.
Geography
Initial forays into the area have revealed that the Reach is mostly an archipelago, separated across distances by the Bejeweled Mist. Due to the difficulty of travelling between islands, navigational advancement is made by travelling in a single heading and elevation from Boton, a small settlement located in a part of the Reach that sits just outside the Mist.
Discovered islands are named according to a code that uses heading and elevation.
The Reach is heavily rumoured to be home to many ruins from the Agaletian and Dalinan empires. Many historians, upon learning of the reach, had spun theories regarding the location of several significant locations in ancient history, including the Agaletian capital of Valetempo and the massive Fortress Candelabra, to name but two.
Localized Phenomena
The Bejeweled Mist
The Bejeweled Mist is a multi-color mist that pervades the air within the Bejeweled Reach. It can occasionally suffuse or stain itself against objects, leaving them with a pearlescent, prismatic sheen, although a quick application of water will quickly wipe it away. Its long-term effects on living beings are unknown, although as it is theorised that the Mist itself contains a "soft" aether, explorers who spend a significant amount of time unprotected within the Mist may experience heightened emotions or euphoria. Because of the nature of lingering aether on stagnant or abandoned locations, aberrations may spawn where there once was none.History
Prior to the discovery of the Bejeweled Reach, the Holy Kingdom of Agni was exploring the region as part of its survey of the region. Initially thought to be part of the Tempest Sky-Sea, or one of the turbulent regions preventing continental access, the Holy Kingdom mostly ignored the region until scholars from the Sovereign Starwatcher Collective identified it not as a Sky-Sea but its own distinct phenomenon. Further examination and measurements against neighbouring islands bordering the Reach confirmed that it was a hitherto unexplored region of Agelua. Eager to take advantage of the situation, the Holy Kingdom set up the Alexandrite Forward Operating Base in Boton to be able to both observe the phenomenon and attract adventurers who would be willing to explore the region in the AG's behalf.
