Old Ones

The creatures called the Old Ones are difficult to describe with words. They don't seem to have any similarities to any other entities in the Material plane. Many of them are shapeshifters and can take on any form they like, though they seem to prefer to take on forms, which are disturbing to most humanoids. The first contact with an Old One is dated by most sages as the beginning of the Third Age, the time of Great Struggle or the Time of Destruction. In all civilised worlds the worship of Old Ones is punished by death. There are some cults that still venerates them in lust for power, but since they were banished their influence over the world weakened. The only exception is Nyarlathotep, who was never caught and continues to spread his corruption to all regions of the world. Even though weakend and banished the influence of the Old Ones isn't gone, as they seem still being able to ensorcell followers that hope to gain something in return.
The Emergence
It was in the year 2790 of the Second Age, or in other calculation of times the first year of the Third Age that a smaller magical interference shaked the continent of Andaria. Though it was noted by some sages, no one truly realized the disasters it would cause; for at this day the world had its first contact with an Old One, Yog Sothtoh. It is unclear how he managed to materialize himself in Andaria, if he was summoned or came by his own will, but it is known that he emerged in the valley Ixoror now known as the Valley of Ökniröi. The valley was inhabited at these times by strong and proud humans, unified under the kingdom of Great Lixis. What really happened is difficult to say, as few written records from Great Lixis are left, but it is safe to assume, that as Yog Sothtoh appeared, he most likely immediately took control over the kingdom. For about 100 years everything seemed normal, though Grea Lixis grew stronger and gained more and more influence on its neighbouring countries.
The First Shadows
It was around the year 130 in the Third Age that a great revolution ravaged the human kingdom of Krostov that expanded over the borders of nowaday Lixanthia. The kingdom broke into many smaller antagonizing counties and realms, followed by long-standing famines and the death of ten thousands of people. The elves were the first suspecting something dark steering these catastrophic events and started preparing. In the year 165 a tsunami hit the coastal region of nowaday Erzcanyon and Thrandelhaven, wreaking great havoc; it was retrospectively deduce that it was no natural phenomenon, but caused by the Old One Cthulhu.Great Lixis immediatly intervened in the affected regions, taking direct and indirect control over the eastern human kindoms. At the same time Great Lixis started building outposts and fortresses in the mountain range Nohir Cime. In the year 170 Great Lixis and the Caliphate Jakkur allied and together attacked the Rocelia. Luckily the elves were prepared for such an attack and the first armies were defeated before entering Rocelia. The dwarves came to aid the elves and strengthen their defenses, which resulted in a 35 years stalemate between the two opposing forces.
The Sinking of Goldhaven
It was only in the year 205 that this stalemate was interupted in favor of the alliance of the kingdom of Great Lixis and the Caliphate Jakkur. With the death of Arxon, the main dwarven deity and the thereby following sinking of Goldhaven, the dwarfs fell in disaray. Large parts of the dwarven military were ordered back to rescue any dwarven remnants and later on were needed as work reinforcment in the fortification and reconstruction of various dwarven settlements. It took the dwarfs nine years to regroup and stabilize their inner structures and declaring their new kingdom of Silvershield. The Lixians used this empty space to increase their attacks to break into elvish territory and for the first time spill blood on elven territory; the so-called Red Lands on the eastern border of Rocelia originate from it. It was at this time in history that for the first time the first werebeast appeared. Rampaging and killing on both the elven and the human side they indirectly slowed the ongoing war, tiring both sides.
The Convergences of Worlds
In the year 221 TD the Old One Nyarlathotep reinflamed the gears of war, when from deep within the canalisation of the ancient city Spitscorn in the kingdom of Erohald, performed with his cult an ominous ritual. With earthshakes trembling all over Andaria he created a convergence of worlds that lasted for about half a year; from these convergences came the dragonborns. The dragonborns coming from a world, that promised them only with a life of slavery grasped the opportunity and escdped into Andaria. Their arrival quickly brought them into conflict with the northern human kingdoms, where they surfaced. In the Urtath Wars the humans were brutaly subjugated and in the year 238 TD the dragonborns quickly formed the Federal Monarchy of Yetheloth. Around the year 222 TD first negotiation between the elves of Rocelia and a large independent group of werebeast took place. The elves offered the werebeast to provide them with an own country to rule, if they aided them in the wars against Great Lixis. The werebeast agreed and a forerunner of Manitara Grove was created. Five years later Ahzwaor, the Great Devourer, was summoned by Yog Sothtoh deep into the south resulting in the complete destruction of the kingdom Sekarlin and everything around it. All that is nowadays left is the crumbled dust amounting to the Sekarlin Desert.
The Angelic Alliance
It was after this afresh destruction that in the year 248 the dwarven kingdom of Silvershield, the elves of Rocelia, the Deep Conglomerate and the freshly formed Federal Monarchy of Yetheloth united and the Angelic Alliance was founded. With the beginning of the next year all the kingdom began with a coordinated attack at Great Lixis and its allies.
Five years later the Caliphate Jakkur crumbled under the growing weight of the economic deficit the war created and a bloody revolution was sparked. The caliph and his family were brutally removed and the free state of Calimtra was founded. In the year 259 an army composed of dragonborns and dwarfs destroyed the armies of the human kingdom of Erohald and occupied the land up to the river Ollen. One year later Rocelia captures the outposts and fortresses in the Nohir Cime mountain range with the help of the gnomes of Iluruvax. In the year 261 TD the Angelic Alliance sieged the twin fortresses, which guarded the strait leading into the valley Ixoror. Three years thereafter the Alliance advance unto the capital of Great Lixis and starts its siege.
The Banishments
Only in the year 273 the resistance of Great Lixis and Yog Sothtoh is broken, when the god Iolatan himself intervenes into the war wiping the capital of Great Lixis from the surface of the world in an earth-shattering blast of magical energy; everything within a 15 miles radius around the city is frozen to stone. In a combined effort of the elven and dwarven gods Yog Sothtoh is caged and banished into a moon floating around the world. Eight years later Ahzwaor is found, caged and banished. 288 Cthulhu is found, caged and banished. 299 Hastur is found, caged and banished.
