Yetheloth

Yetheloth - a Dragonborn Federal Monarchy situated on the eastern seaside of the Andarian continent. It is the only Dragonborn-ruled kingdom in Andaria and known for its self-isolation and secularistic stance. It was created in the Third Age in the year 238 TD and has persisted now for over 210 years. Its borders extends to the human County of Erzcanyon to the west, seperated by the river Gorax, and the dwarven Kingdom of Silvershield to the south. It is a fertile, green land with tall mountains and deep forests, giving enough ressources for a quickly growing Dragonborn society. The kingdom is ruled by the older-growing queen Fuulkurtha Orath, approaching her 72nd birthday. She took over the kingdom after her husband died in a naval battle against the Athuran empire, which is situated to the far northeast behind the Hungry Deep ocean. She is struggling against the growing movement that tries to get the deceased kings nephew onto the throne, as well as with her growing age.

Dragonborn Seclusion

The only possibility to enter Yethloth is either via one of its many ports and trying to persuade a local noble to certificate ones admission into Yetheloth, which can be extremly difficult, or to request official papers at one of the few embassies Yetheloth maintains. This is a lenghty procedure costing much time, gold and energy, without any guarantee of success. In addition only Silvershield, Rocelia and Dunkrast actually maintain an embassy. The easiest way is via Silvershield, which is the only kingdom that actually has a cordial relationship with Yetheloth. Since the appearance of the Dragonborn folk Silvershield supported their search for a place to stay and assisted with political power as well as with food supplies. For some time now the two kingdoms have approached a lot and realized that they share similarities: such as an advanced interest and skill in smithing. Both sides realized that their obvious differences in appearance, would not hinder a beneficial alliance for both of them.

Magic

It is unknown if the dragonborn always possessed a natural talent for evocation magic or if it has been magically heightened in some clouded past, but it is a fact that evocation magic is widespread in Yetheloth. Many magic casters draw from the field of evocation and specialize in it. In addition is also the most teached in the magic academies all around Yetheloth. It is a highly offensive school of magic and was essential in conquering and defending their new homeland.

Structure

The Dragoon
The Dragoons are the Yethelothian special force. It is a relic of the times in their ancient world. The Dragoons were trained to hunt and take down dragons; an art that they still train to perfection, however as this world contains a lot less dragons, they are nowadays more often patroling Yetheloths borders and slaying normal beasts.
The Heat
The Dragonborn possess a long history of processing metal. In Yetheloth this craft is represented by the Order of the Heaters, or simply the Heat. It is a kingdom-wide artisanal guild, which is known for making remarkable resilient armor, which is unparalleled in all of Andaria. The Forge has good relations with the dwarven forger-craftsguild and representatives of both sides often exchange knowledge and skill.
The Tiger Palm
In the tall mountains of Yetheloth several different cloister have settled to deepen their spiritual and physical abilities. Each cloister asserts that their way is the only true path to tread on, which does lead to sporadic exchanges of blows; luckily these are seldom deadly. All cloister share the same origin, Oniroath Hono the first monk in Dragonborn history. It is said, that he had visions, which told him the ways of freeing him from his mortal self, transcending matter and flesh.
The Order of Expertise
The dream of any Dragonborn, who is gifted with magical aptitude, is to enter the Order of Expertise. It is a highly renown circle of Sorcerers and Wizards, which oversee the magic academies that are situated in all large yethelothian cities. Its main purpose is the gaining of knowledge and its distibution, whereat it has a heavy focus on evocation magic. The Order is guided by a circle of five archon, each by himself a renowned Dragonborn; the most renowned among them is Urtath Grarth.

Figures of Interest

Urtath Kanth
Urtath Kanth was the leader of Rin the free Dragonborn city, that crossed over into Andaria at the Convergence of Worlds. Under his leadership the dragonborns united and changed the course of war that erupted all over East Andaria and made it possible to gain a permanent foothold in Andaria. He's revered by all dragonborn as the founding father of Yetheloth and is officially honoured every year on the third of april the day the kingdom of Yetheloth was officially created. All around the kingdom large celebrations are held and in the larger cities pompous military parades march through the streets.
Fuulkurtha Orath
The most known Dragonborn induvidual outside of Yetheloth is the ruling queen Fuulkurtha Orath. She is in power for 22 years now and continued the strong border policy of her late husband. She is a prominent figur in Dragonborn society even if it seems that she is growing too old to reign for much longer.
Kratirif Dawyn
The deceased king had a few concubines, which are mostly not very commonly known. His latest concubine though, Yaponsriath Dawyn, gave birth to a very well known illegitimate son; the 19 years young Kratirif Dawyn, who seems to gather allies and power in a rapidly growing number. He is one of the leading advocates of the expansionist movement.
Orixanon Orath
The former king Orixanon Orath died in a naval battle against the military forces of the Athuran empire. Though the battle ended in favor of Yetheloth the king was deadly wounded in the final battle. He was a strong advocat of the strong border and isolationism policy.
Ulroor Grarth
Ulroor Grarth is one of the most prominent figures in Yetheloth, as he is one of the five archon, guiding the Order of Expertise. Not much is known about his personal life, expect that he is a master in evocation magic and his very old age. Rumours are that he is only half Dragonborn and that his other half allowed him to have aged up to his 121 years!
Frommec Orath
A very prominent figur in Yethelothian society is Frommec Orath, the deceased kings brother. He supported queen Fuulkurtha Orath from the beginning of her reign, but these last years he started to position his brother illegitimate son Kratirif Dawyn.

Public Agenda

The yethelothian Monarchy having licked its wounds for the longest times since the end of the Third Age, is starting to realize its political and military capabilities. Having a quickly growing population combined with a rich land, both in obtainable ressources and fertility, first thoughts of increasing their sphere of influence is crossing the minds of the ruling classes. The ruling nobility is divided into a smaller, but growing percentage of expansionists that want to expand into the human kingdoms and the yet far larger group of conservatives, who see enough space in Yetheloth itself and want to preserve the status quo.

History

The Arrival
In the already confusing and dangerous Third Age, also known as the Time of Destruction, a powerful shift between the planes occured in the year 221 TD, leading to an overlapping of two worlds. Through these temporary shifts came the Dragonborn. Apart from a very few cities, most Dragonborn were hold as slaves on their world. Realizing the possibility of gaining their freedom, first waves of Dragonborn fled through the shifts and started building outpost and cities of some form.
The Urtath Wars
Very much to the dislike of the local natives and countries, which mostly only saw in the new race a new competitor for the already scarcer growing ressources. Wars started to erupt immediately, wherever the dragonborn came forth. At first the newcomers were fewer in numbers and ill-prepared in contrast with the already existing factions, and were hard-pressed. This though shifted when one of the few free dragonborn cities, under the lead of Urtath Kanth, traversed into the Material plane. They were battle hardened warriors resisting enslavment for centuries. They understood the possibily of gaining true freedom in these new lands and they had no interest in giving up this opportunity. A new momentum formed and within three brutal wars, which greatly destroyed the local human countries, the dominance of the region went to the dragonborns in the year 225 TD.
Creation of Yetheloth
After the surrendering of the kingdoms of Levankis and Olantur, the human countries east of the Saltlake Mohrush, the remaining combatants were heavily weakend and the expanding realms under the influence of the Old Ones were growing ever more dangerous. At the urging of the elves of Rocelia and the Aquan Races the dragonborns and the humans signed a non-aggression pact, bringing fragile peace and regulating the distribution of land. The largest part of dragonborns settled in the new country of Yetheloth, leerily guarding their borders and regrouping their forces.
Seclusion
As the threat of the Old Ones became to dangerous the Angelic Alliance was formed and Yetheloth officialy joined, but withhold most of the time its armies. At the siege of Valley Oxros, nowadays Valley of Ökniröi, Yetheloth sent a handful armies of Dragoons to support the Angelic Alliance in its attempt to destroy Yog Sothtoh and everyone allied with him. After the banishment of the Old Ones Yetheloth increased their isolation tendency and most alliances and accords were left to expire, except for the ones with Silvershield.

Demography and Population

The population in Yetheloth amounts to approximately five million individuals, whereas these number grows rather rapidly; the populace consists nearly exclusively of dragonborn, a small single-digit percentage are of dwarven kind, which are the only race that are fully welcome on yethelothian territory. The largest part of the population lives in rural areas mostly living from gathering and hunting, partly cultivating the land.

Territories

Arathos
With about 80.000 Dragonborn living in and around Arathos it is the largest city in Yetheloth. This results on the one hand being the official capital of Yetheloth, but also on its advantageous position as safe haven at the bottom of the Merchant Triangle. In Arathos stands the royal palace from where queen Fuulkurtha Orath rules Yetheloth; it is also here that is located the headquarter of the Order of Expertise, which is in charge of the organisation of all mage schools in Yetheloth. It is one of few easier possibilities for non Dragonborns and Dwarfs to enter Yetheloth; Rocelia and Dunkrast built massive embassies in the political district.
Baranika
About 300 miles to the northeast of Thorsis lies the island of Baranika. It is about 30.000 square miles of densely wooded jungle, with a large active volcano at its center as its most eye-catching feature. Five cities lie at its sandy beaches: Minamis, Shleerensteg, Mara, Sprang and Gunkan. Apart from these cities the rest of the island comprises of untamed wildlife and lizardfolk, who are its natural habitants. The newcomers and settlers, who come to Baranika, either want to make money or find a own place to live and stay. Money can be made through hunting and selling the local fauna or searching for one of the few ancient temples and tombs the jungle hides.
High Peaks
With its approximately 3000 miles tall peaks the High Peaks mountain range is the farthest distance you can get from the ground on yethelothian boundaries. The range is hard to conquer even with the necessary skill and equipment and few people live in these remote and less civilised area. Most of the dwellers in these parts are reclusive hermits and cloisters of monks that share the space with clusters of wyvern and similar airborne wildlife.
Iromath
Iromath lies to the west at the right bank of the river Gorax, directly bordering to the County of Erzcanyon. Originally constructed as a stronghold to monitor the border, it developed into a large city. It is famous for being the main training camp of the of high renown Dragoons, the Yethelothian special forces.
Khmin
Khmin is known to be the largest mining city in Yetheloth and famous for being the headquarter of the Order of the Heaters. It is not only the largest producer of weapons and armor in Yetheloth, but also the only known producer of Othirrsteel, an extreme difficult to smelt ore with unparalleled hardness. In an unique smelting process, known to few, it has to be melted at extreme temperatures for hours; the dragonborn of Khmin have built a part of their smelters deep into the mountain in order to harness the heat of the earth itself; only high members of the Heat are even allowed to these smelters, but due to the destructive environment only dragonborn with natural heat resistence tend to work there.
Merchant Triangle
The triangle connecting the cities Arathos, Rivran and Thorsis form the so-called Merchant Triangle. It is a highly sailed area, where mostly goods are exchanged between the cities, but also many merchants from Dunkrast and few human merchants sail through here to trade with Yetheloth.
Osan
East of Yetheloth lies the small island of Osan, sharing its name with the regional metropolis. It is heavely guarded by the Yethelothian fleet as it is here that the mortal remains of Urtath Kanth are buried. It is the closest thing Yetheloth has in terms of holy or religious ground. Admittance to Osan are seldomly given and difficult to obtain. Most of the population are historian of some kind or work under one or aspiring political advisers; it is here that the dragonborn history is passed from generation to generation.
Phiom
To the southeastern corner of Lushy Valley snuggling between the mountains and Beauty Lake lies the city of Phiom. It is famous for its export of potions and alchemistic minerals and having one of the largest Forge Guilds in Yetheloth. Phiom is renown for its lake, which is said to have miraculous healing properties. It has a faint pink colour, resulting from the mélange of the mineral rich mountain water and the water from Saltlake Mohrush.
Rin
Rin is the only Dragonborn city that completly traversed into the plane of Langraan. It is with that the oldest dragonborn city in Yetheloth, looking vastly different than all other cities in East Andaria. It is an enormous bastion, encircled by three thick layers of reddish sandstone-like walls. It is known for being the breadbasket of Yetheloth and being the second headquarter of the famous Dragoons. Just outside the walls a port has been built into the Saltlake Mohrush, allowing trade with the other countries surrounding the lake.
Rockwave Valley
Separating the elven and dwarven kingdoms from Yetheloth lies the Rockwave Valley, labelled this way, because of the seemingly never-ending waves of small hills and mountains. Encircled by the rivers Morok and the Slow Oron lies this mostly untouched and wild region, populated by different beast and smaller clans of kobolds.
Sobt
To the south lies the city of Sobt nestled in the mountain range. It is famous for harbouring the largest monastery of the Tiger Palm and rich ore deposits. Its momentary headmaster, the very influential Alara Nakron, also administrates the city and its surrounding.
Stingy Pines
To the southeastern part of Yetheloth lies the Stingy Pines mountain range. The region is often hit by turbulent weatherfronts blowing from the southeast and civilisation never reached further than the vast lake area that lies between Alaf and Karath. The mountain range is full with kobolds and vicious packs of gnolls, that luckily tend to be absorbed with themself. The locals know of the dangers and try to stay out of the shadows of the mountains, sometimes like in the case of the city of Karath they are living in harmony with the local kobold clans. Once in the year 34 PD did a large host of kobolds swarm down the Stingy Pines and plundered and burned down smaller villages. This incident went down in Yethelothian history as the Small Havoc, which was answered by Yetheloth by sending an army of Dragoons, which managed to ambushed and slaughter the kobold host, followed by a short, but violent outburst of revenge on kobold settlements.
Tbercot
Tbercot lies to the south of Saltlake Mohrush right at the estuary of the Slow Oron. It is a large trading city, exchanging wares with the elves, the sha-uris and the human cities Krauhort and Sandkyust. It has the largest shipyard of the Yethelothian cities, bordering Saltlake Mohrush and is because of its position right at the border heavily fortified and always has a large garrison stationed.
Tehne
Famous for being one of the largest mining cities, the residents of Tehne boast with their great amount of metal- and stonework export, which is exported and known all around Andaria. It is also known for being the greatest military port of Yetheloth.
Trastrith
The southernmost city of Yetheloth is the seaport of Trastrith. It is from here that most of the trade with the dwarves is processed. It is also known for its close dwarven-dragonborn collaboration concerning the engineering of warships and naval vehicles; many of the Yethelothian warships are produced here.

Religion

In the Dragonborn society religion is a really difficult topic. Coming from a different plane of existence, the Dragonborn never were in any positive religious relationships. Being treated by all other entities as slaves and disposable workforce, Dragonborns view all god-like beings with a large amount of distrust or even hate. As such most Dragonborn are highly secularistic to the point of not allowing any clergy into their kingdom.

Foreign Relations

Being on Andaria for a relatively brief amount of time, Dragonborn are yet very unconnected to the rest of the continent and content with it. They have cordial connections to the dwarfs, as well political as in trade, but their other connections consists merely of a few embassies with Rocelia and Dunkrast and their trade relationships with Rocelia, Dunkrast and the Merchant Alliance.

The strong is strongest alone.
