Griffin

Basic Information

Anatomy

Griffins take the back legs and tail of their parent feline, and the head, wings, and front legs of their parent bird.   Depending on the subspecies, griffins can range from monstrous animals capable of carrying away cattle to small, troublesome pests. Despite this, griffins rarely cause trouble with the human world apart from a mild annoyance or the occasional upset farmer. This is because griffins take to their feline halves in terms of sheer laziness. Griffins rarely move when unprompted by danger or hunger, and as such, only go after a meal every few days; the larger species can go up to two weeks without a meal.   From their avian halves, griffins get their hollow bones. While these bones are much stronger than a birds (they have to be, to support the weight of the griffins' muscle), they are more fragile than a similarly-sized mammal. As such, griffins rarely cause trouble with local predator populations or other griffins.

Growth Rate & Stages

The average griffin lives to be about 15 Earth years (About 8.5 Thean years).   Until they are 2EY/1TY of age, griffins remain with their mother for care. After that, they branch out on their own to find their own territory.

Ecology and Habitats

Griffins exist in all areas of Thea, from the wildest woods and mountaintops to the streets of the busiest cities.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Griffins have all the slyness of cats and birds in one densely-muscled body. Smaller species have been observed solving basic puzzles; nobody's really had the resources to attempt testing on larger species.
