Royal Navy

The Royal Navy is the naval military force of Caraegwyn. It is one of the most powerful navies on the Great Sea, contested mainly by the Imperial Navy of Egea and the Imperial Armada of Isatia. Peace has reigned in the Heartlands over the past few centuries, and the Royal Navy has seen military action mainly against sporadic raids from the nearby islands of Orkney, pirate incursions by the Corsair Fleets of Sah-Dai and barbarians from The North.   Contents

Duties and functions

The Royal Navy is charged with the defense of the nation's waters by its coastlines in the south and west as well as upholding the safety of international trade routes passing through those waters. Its fleets of warships and transport flotillas often coordinate their efforts with the Constabulary for coastal troop deployments.

Organization structure

The Royal Navy is divided into three sub-groups known as fleets. The 1st Fleet and the 2nd Fleet are headquartered on the nation's western seaboard with access to the Great Sea and the cold northern seas via Daggercap Bay. The 3rd Fleet is based on the southern coast of Caraegwyn, operating on the Golden Sea, the Golden Strait and Great Sea.   The most significant ranks of the Royal Navy are the following:
  1. High Admiral: Supreme commander of the Royal Navy. Member of the Council of the Round Table.
  2. Admiral: Commander of a fleet.
  3. Flagade Admiral: Commands a flagade from a flagship assisted by a large command staff. A flagade is composed of dozens of battleships and their escort vessels.
  4. Pennantry Admiral: Commander of a pennantry, a naval group composed of 4-16 battleships and their escort vessels.
  5. Vice Admiral: Commander of a squadron, a naval group composed of 2-3 battleships and their escort vessels.
  6. Commodore: Commander of a flotilla, a naval group composed entirely of a single type of escort vessel.
  7. Captain: Commander of a ship.
  8. Lieutenant: Officer on a ship.
  9. Matroose (pl. matreese): Rank-and-file sailors.

Forward in unity.
