13.0 - Admission: Regret Report

General Summary

Why didn't they kill me?   I'm not even bleeding anymore. They patched me up. But why? I tried to kill them.   More perplexing is their offer to help me rescue Glitter. My little girl. It's a risky plan, trying to whisk her away from the Servitor himself. If—if—it even seems remotely possible once we gather information in Klarhavon.   This has to be a joke. Surely they'll just offer me up to the Servitor in exchange for Sil'Ferrous's bounty removed—or for whatever the Servitor wants him for. Retribution for my betrayal.   I stare at the bowl of cold soup in my lap. But will they? They could've left me tied up. They didn't have to feed me.   Kilith's voice draws my attention. He's talking to the demon of the coin again, only his half of the conversation audible. I wish he hadn't found it. That demon... it works its way into your core. I didn't even realize until now, just how much its influence was smothering me. With the coin out of my possession, everything is... lighter. I'll advise Kilith to toss it into the ocean, to bury it, anything to get rid of it and make sure no one else can reach it. Especially Kallista. The demon's keen interest in her after meeting her is alarming. It never outright said anything, but the pulses of curiosity and excitement from it were enough to unsettle me.   I lift a spoonful of soup to my mouth and give it a few tentative laps. It would've tasted much better hot. But I'm in no position to complain. I'm in no position for anything. I proceed with eating it.   Sil'Ferrous and Holg's excited chatter intensifies as Sil'Ferrous pokes and prods at the weird smoky orb of Holg's. Sil'Ferrous hands the orb back to Holg, talking too fast for me to catch more than "not quite inanimate". My brow furrows. I still don't understand why the Servitor wanted Sil'Ferrous specifically. Sure, he's inadvertently a danger to himself and others, but what does he have on him the Servitor wants so bad? Bad enough to set up wanted posters? Bad enough that once he knew I had Sil'Ferrous in my grasp he instructed me to bring Sil'Ferrous—corpse or not—and all his belongings back to Vira's Aspiration?   Sil'Ferrous cups Kilith's heat stone, and then suddenly lunges at Holg. I tense. Should I—? Holg bats him away, but Sil'Ferrous doesn't let up. Then Kilith grabs the elf, locking Sil'Ferrous in a restraining hold. Slowly, Sil'Ferrous calms down and hands back Kilith's stone, chattering cheerily like nothing happened.   I relax again, and work on finishing my soup.   Atani returns from meditating in the city as I spoon the last bit of my meal into my mouth. They all chat quietly. Have they changed their minds? Snippets of their conversation drift to me. "...won't stab us in our sleep?" "Really? How... the Servitor..." "...not really along our path."   They're right. It's an impossible task. And they're right to distrust me; I traded my best friend's life in an attempt to get Glitter back.   Kilith strides to me, my greatsword in his hand. Where had that been? Well. Seems fitting to die by my own blade.   I close my eyes.   But no strike comes. My eyes blink open. Kilith is holding the sword out to me. I set the empty bowl aside and stand. My paw grasps the familiar grip and I bow my head in acquiescence.   This time I do it right.   And once my daughter is safe, I'll have my revenge against Rogan.
