The Cotentin Peninsula

Geography

The Peninsula dominates the West of the Duchy of La Manche in Northern Kornôgel along the Mor Breizh. The Peninsula sits between two large bays to its East and West, the Pleg-Mor Menez-Mikael and the Sena Basin, respectively.   The Peninsula is roughly defined by three landscapes. The rocky headlands that form Hedgecape, the Northern tip of the Peninsula, in which the port city of Carusburg sits. Continuing Southward along the Saire River, the landscape becomes flat plains, filled with Bocage. South of Briovère, the area becomes marshland, dotted with narrow ridgelike moorland. During times of flood, the low-lying marshland is often submerged, making the peninsula an island. Massive floating sea gates, built during the Empire of Ys, mitigate this throughout most the the year.   Politically, the Peninsular is made up by the Viscounty of Coutances in the North and the County of Avranches in the South, bordering the County of Bayeux and the County of Mortain, which have some holdings on the Eastern side of the Peninsula.

Natural Resources

The peninsula is home to a thriving agricultural sector, producing dairy products and vegetables, as well as ample oysters and mussels. The primary output of the region, and what it is known for, is its apple and pear orchards, used in the production of Cidre, Perry and Calvados.   The massive shipyards of Carusburg are the primary industry of the region.

History

The Peninsula was part of a larger landmass connecting it with the Armorican Peninsula, but the destruction during the Battle of Meneziou Are that formed the Pleg-Mor Menez-Mikael and the subsequent sea level rise that destroyed Ys formed the bay and tidal flats that now fill the area between them.   The Peninsula has long been a battleground between La Manche and its Western neighbor, Letha, even briefly becoming part of the (then Kingdom) in the reign of Alan "Mwar" I until internal strife and increased attacks by Fomorian vikings, led by Hastings Fireforged resulted in the land breaking away from the Lethans.
