Alan "Mwar" I
High King Alan , I (a.k.a. Mwar (The Great), The Last High King of the Lethaned.)
Social
Reign
King Salaun died in 778 SI, his great kingdom falling into disarray as a civil war erupted between two power blocs, Dug Paskweten I of House Roazhon, who controlled the South and Dug Gurvand I of House Gwened, who controlled the North.
Alan, Dug of Gwened, took up his brother Paskwaten's banner against Judicael of Poher, a Western lord who claimed the throne after seeing the East weakened by the prior war. The war continued until a truce was made to repel the Viking invasion of Hastings Fireforged, joining forces at Battle of Kistreberzh. Judicael was killed during the fighting and Alan was crowned High King of the Lethaned.
Alan's campaign continued with the major victory over Hastings at the Battle of Briovère, chasing the Fomorian host into the river to drown. Alan's holdings included not only what is now considered Letha, but also the County of Avranches, the Viscounty of Coutances. He took the Viscounty of Retz from the County of Poitou and occupied much of theDuchy of Anjev. With the West quiet, Alan's greatest rival was Dug Fulk I of Anjev, who had designs on Retz and Naoned. Alan secured the backing of Charles III, King of Gallia, who recognized his claim of Kingship over Letha.
With Alan's death in 812 SI, Kont Gourmaëlon of Kernev disputed Alan's heir, Paskwaten II's right to rule and marched on Gwened. Hastings Fireforged, weakenedbut not defeated, took advantage of the chaos to take over the kingdom, leading to the thirty year Fomorian Interregnum between 812 and 842.
Alan's Grandson, Alan "Al Louarn" II, would return to claim the throne, but only with the backing of Gallia, taking the title of Dug. Alan I would be the last to hold the title of High King.
