Glenan Archipelago

Geography

Once a peninsula connected to the mainland during the reign of King Gradlon Mwar, the region was engulfed by the sea during Cadfan's Tempest, leaving only a group of nine granite islands and scattered rock formations across the vast stretch of water. In the center of the islands is a sheltered lagoon with clear water and ringed by white sandy beaches.   Very little remains of the settlement that existed during Gradlon's time, as the islands were abandoned during the Kernev Civil War and the breakup of the kingdom. Numerous attempts to establish permanent fishing villages and even a monastic conclave have largely failed, constantly harried by pirates, finfolk, Marie-Morgane and inhospitable weather. Several Standing Stones are found on the islands' highest point, rumoured to have once been the Kalvar of Great Kernev.

Points of Interest

  • Fort Seizkogn
  • Locally referred to as Fort Useless, this stone fortification was built on one of the islands for the express purpose of denying pirates a port, a task it failed miserably at, often becoming a haven for pirates itself. Long since abandoned after constant attacks by Marie-Morgane, the inhabitants of the fort vanishing from the island.
  • Gwantenn
  • In the waters between Glenan and the mainland, the ruins of the city of Ker-Glenan still stand. This sunken town has long been overrun by The Finfolk, while the Beg-Sabrenn of the Marie-Morgane consider the ruins a strategically and culturally important site to be retaken. Conflicts between the two groups are common.

    Fauna & Flora

Seabirds make the islands their home, such as terns and gulls. Brinlivic, the Island of the Black Ravens, is home to a murder of corvids.   Basking sharks are plentiful in the inner lagoon between the islands.   The Groac'h of Loc'h Island - Legend tells of a malevolent fairy witch with elemental powers who resides on one of the islands, transforming men into fish to serve as meals to her guests. Other stories have her lavishing gifts on those who seek her out.

    Natural Resources

The sheltered archipelago is a popular haven for pirates and privateers to harass shipping along the southern Ar Mor. This is not without its own risks, as the Marie-Morgaine fiercely control this territory, having recruited entire crews to their numbers and leaving the rest to drown on the rocks. Ships frequently crash on the rocks, the wrecked loot hotly contested by mortal wreckers and the Marie-Morgane.
