Mor Ailhenn
Geography
Mor Ailhenn, or the Sea of Mist, is a large body of water located North-Northwest of the continent of Kornôgel. It is contiguous with the Mor Bras, but is more commonly known for its relation to the Fortunate Isles, which are found largely within its waters. Albia, the largest of the isles, forms the Eastern border of the waterbody, while Emain Ablach takes up much of the West. Between these two large islands are an uncounted number of islands, including Phantom Islands, Floating Islands and Skybound Islands. These landmasses range heavily in size, habitability and population. Submarine locations and settlements are also found throughout the Sea.
Two undersea freshwater rivers, the Lli and the Archan flow through the Mistsea. These two features aree also the most prominent leylines in the Fortunate Isles and are crucial to the continued survival of all the magical creatures living in the region.
Notable locations in the Mor Ailhenn include:
- Albia: The largest of the Fortunate Isles, home to the Kingdom of Lorgres and several petty Kingdoms. The North is dominated by rocky highlands, while the south is filled with plains and forests.
Emain Ablach: The Isle of Apples. A large island, rotating between the extremes of Summer and Winter.
Hy-Brasil - A magically unstable skybound island, torn apart during the Tear.
Magonia - The skybound home of the Tempestarii
Shadowsisle - One of the Northernmost isles in the Mor Ailhenn.
Tir na nÓg - A massive. city sized ship. It is bound to the Mor Ailhenn.
Localized Phenomena
The Mistsea is named for a thick veil of Feth Fiada that seems to constantly enshroud the region at all times, either clinging in low whisps to the water's surface or slowly rolling across the area in great banks. From a great distance on the Mor Bras or Mor Marv, the sea often appears as a solid mass of clouds. The Feth Fiada is not ever-present in such large quantities, and indeed, the islands within often experience sunny days. However, the mist grows heavier when unfamiliar ships enter its waters, obscuring navigation to outsiders. A similar effect occurs with Windships passing overhead.
It is possible to become lost in the thick nondescript whiteness, ending up in dangerous, otherworldly Faewyldes or even other realities entirely. It is rumored that if one becomes to lost, one crosses into Mag Mor or Old Elfriche. Ghostly Bag Noz crewed by Herla are often seen in the waters, more common than any other waterbody in Alvez.
