Industry & Trade

Solterra is the central hub of all trade in Falennor and even has trading routes to many of the big coastal cities in the world of Alverria. They have a great fishing industry, but have mostly migrated to more specialized industry such as crafting, both mundane and magical; taking raw materials from the surrounding settlements/countries and turning that into something more valuable and usable.

Imports: Lumber, grain, spices, textiles, metal
Exports: Jewelry, perfumes, fish, magical items, potions

Infrastructure

The Gilded Spire, a tall, golden tower that is attached to the House of Coin, is a central point of the city.

Guilds and Factions

The Crimson Lions, a guild that originated on the continent of Aerosias, in the human city of Dawnhaven. They are followers of the Burning King, believing in justice and overall goodness. They will often have bounties out for monsters in the area or notorious villains.
The Merchant Kings, the three individuals who hold the most power in Solterra, and are the deciding factor on everything that has to do with the city's industry and trade. The merchant kings tend not to change frequently, and they each have their own specialty in trade and politics. The merchant kings are Eltaor Hawthorne, Ambrose Reid, and Semyaza.
The Three Crowns of Cyric, they are the seedy underground network of Solterra. Cyric is the god of lies and death, before he lost the dominion to the Raven Queen. The three leaders represent Cyric's three crowns he holds over death, madness, and lies. The Motley Few had dispatched of the Crown of Madness, Olaf Klegane, but the Crown of Lies and Death are still unknown and operate in the shadows.
The Order of Saint Lazarus, they are an ancient order that originated in the Heartwood around Dysenbon. They are primarily solitary workers or work in pairs, travelling across the continent and working alongside many villages and druidic tribes to help tend to the natural balance of the world. This often entails helping a village with crop yield by performing rituals, apprehending poachers, helping endangered species, protecting communities from rampaging wildlife (natural or unnatural).
The City Watch, they are a small militia group in Solterra who patrol the city and deal with the every day crimes occurring. They work together with many of the priests/priestesses to various gods in order to get to the bottom of squabbles and tricks. Common jobs they may perform or need help with is pickpockets, local bounties, investigations within city limits, and defending the city walls.

History

Solterra was founded 150 years ago by a small group of merchants who had left their individual homes to travel and trade where they go. They met up somewhere on the road, and when they came across a small village of Solterra, they decided to make it their home. It didn't take them long to grow great influence and expand the village to what it is today using their great sense of business and their keen minds.

Architecture

A beautiful, modern city built of grey stone and red cedar wood (for its water resistance), the city is built up onto a hill so that many of the citizens can see the great Casduen Ocean from their homes and streets. It is divided into many districts:
  • The Old Square: the central part of the city, where the House of Coin is located at the heart of the city, as well as the biggest market square where there are a variety of famous businesses located throughout.
  • Parke Heights: aristocratic housing. The three merchant kings have houses in this separately walled district, and it is by far the best kept district in the city. There is a large gate that is the only passage into this district, and you must either have an escort and explicit permission to enter.
  • The Gilded Rose: the red-light district of Solterra. The streets of the Gilded Rose are lines with coloured lanterns, tightly packed buildings with alluring asthetic, and shadier businesses that could pass as respectable taverns.
  • The Dawn Quarter: a district constructed from lighter stone, this district is where the majority of the temples lay. There are some higher-brow inns in this location as well, where many pilgrams and religious figures prefer to stay.
  • Dalkeith Alley: A number of streets and alleys that are home to many blacksmiths, fletchers, armourers, tanneries, etc.
  • Dockside: the docks of the city, where most of the ships that harbour there are merchant ships, and very few are warships. The docks also are home to some dingy taverns frequented by sailors, and warehouses that can be rented for storage of cargo.

Geography

A coastal metropolis that is partially built into the great temperate rainforest, the Arbuta Forest. It is a very large, tiered city built mostly of grey stone and cedar wood.
