The dark elves live in a matriarchal society where women rule, unlike their pale-skinned cousins. Men have a very low standing and they are used mainly as consorts to make babies, or as slaves and soldiers to protect the women.

Before The Turbulence the biggest drow city was called Zilvraena Noqu'yl ["The Forgotten home which is sacred to the Drow"] and it had been described as a flourighsing underground metropolis which architecture was something out of this world, but the same sources also underline the horrid creatures -the sacred spiders of dangerous Lolth, the dark elf goddess of chaos- lurking around very corner and how hostile the whole city is to any foreigner seeking shelter, but to also those who are natives to the harsh conditions of the Underdark.
After the Turbulence everything went quiet on that front. There have been no sighting or news of the dark elves surviving and it is commonly thought that the dark elves as a race has perished completely.
