Solspyd

Solspyd is the Human and Tiefling capital of Vold. It sits on the northernmost point of Southern Vold, and is the main port leading into The Sea of Rubies, and thus the rest of the world. Solspyd takes care of much of Vold's trade, as its neighbouring city of Malmund has some of the richest mineral deposits in Alnheim, and Faenlun is a prominent exporter of herbs, spices, and other exotic goods.   The Citadel in Solspyd stands solitary, a kilometre out from the main city, supported by large granite arches that reach out from the bottom of the sea floor, holding the vast structure in place. It is here the human High Councillor, High Councillor Vastra Kesh of Solspyd, carries out her duty to the land.

Demographics

Solspyd is home to large populations of Humans and Tieflings, who have no significant differences in terms of their wealth and stature. Humans make up around 2 million inhabitants, while Tieflings make up around 1.8 million. The remaining 2.2 million inhabitants of Solspyd come from all races, and new races constantly come to the port, or make their homes there.

Government

Solspyd is under the rule of The Order, and thus abides by their rules and regulations. The Order representative for the Human/Tiefling settlements is High Councillor Vastra Kesh of Solspyd, however she is aided by a small council made up of councillors of each race from each city.

Defences

Solspyd's first line of defence are the walls that surround the port, and connect with the Citadel. The walls are constantly manned by archers and warmages, as well as catapults, trebuchets, and ballistae. In the event of a serious onslaught, the Voldian Navy are rallied, as most of their strength is garrisoned in Solspyd and Malmund due to The Third Orcish Rebellion. In the event that an enemy were to land on the shores of Solspyd, the City Guard and The Holy Sect are always available to protect the citizens. As a final line of defence, provided he isn't preoccupied, the Clerics would attempt to call upon Jarvan, God of Death, to intervene.

Industry & Trade

Solspyd doesn't have many of its own exports and rather makes its money relying on the imports and exports of other places. It acts as a funnel for its neighbouring cities of Faenlun, a large exporter of exotic herbs, spices, oils, and magical items, and Malmund, a city of fishermen and miners, who mine the some of the world's finest and richest resources. Tourism to Solspyd is rife, as Solspyd houses the only Underworld Portal in Vold, attracting denizens from all over the Voldian States to enter and visit their loved ones who have passed on. Tourists also come to marvel at the city's beautiful sandstone and red tile architecture, the winding canals, and of course, the towering black granite Citadel.

Infrastructure

Solspyd has extensive and wide canal systems, allowing for easy travel of merchant ships to the city's docks. These canals operate on aqueducts that make travelling from one side of the city to other very simple. Footpaths, bridges, and roads cover any areas that are not accessible by water. An extensive sewer system. A huge main shipyard where the majority of the Voldian Navy's ships are built. Watermills are placed at regular points in the shipyards and docks in order to activate mechanisms designed to aid the movement of docked ships for departure. Solspyd houses The Grand Temple of the Dead. This is the largest temple in service to Jarvan, God of Death. Within the temple is an Underworld Portal.

Assets

Blacksmiths; Kayder's Hammer, various others.   Magical Wares; Bish's Place, The Grand Temple of the Dead, various market stalls and small shops pedalling petty magical goods.   General markets; Large market squares with various exotic foods, spices, herbs, and ornaments.   Banks; The Morfaren Bank.

Architecture

Solspyd's buildings are a mixture of sandstone slabs and blocks, often intricately carved with garish Tiefling design. They roofs of these buildings are tiled with red tiles. Some of the older buildings that were restored from the Age of the Dwarves are carved differently and have different heights. Although the colour schemes were intentionally matched when Solspyd was settled by humans, these buildings are noticeable due to their Draconic carvings and runes.   The Citadel of Solspyd is wholly different. It stands a kilometre off shore, almost half a kilometre in height, made completely of black granite. Adorning the top of the citadel is a huge statue of Thallan Erralei III. Her body is made of white marble, and her wings are black granite, encrusted with rubies. She wears a golden diadem covered in precious gems from the mines of Malmund, and wields a golden spear tipped with black granite. The Citadel itself rests on a platform held up by eight huge granite arches that rise from the sea.   The walls of Solspyd begin at the Citadel and are made of solid stone, reinforced with steel. They stretch away from the Citadel's arches in a semicircular fashion toward and around the city.   The Grand Temple of the Dead is the not-so-sore thumb of Solspyd. It towers above the normal buildings of the city, offering plenty of shade to its sun-kissed inhabitants. The temple is made entirely of stone, and is covered in statues of Jarvan's saints and most devoted followers. The roof of the building is covered with a layer of bronze sheet metal, causing it to glint in the sunshine.   On its southernmost point is The Ward. The Ward is made of a similar material to the rest of the city walls, but it is not part of them. The Ward is a wall that stands at nearly 250 metres tall, and is split into three segments, with stone and wood bridges connecting the segments sporadically. It spans the entire width of Southern Vold and acts as a huge military garrison, housing nearly 7 million troops. The Ward is magically guarded on the outer side, designed to protect Vold from ranged assault, and to disintegrate anything that attempts to pass through uninvited.

Geography

Solspyd is directly on the coast of The Sea of Rubies. The city landscape is primarily stone and sandstone. To the east, west, and south of the city there are rolling sand dunes stretching beyond the comprehension of modern maps.
