The Party makes preparations to attend the Gala in Coverberry. They arrive and enjoy themselves until an attempt is made on Prince Vilho's life and they chase the perpetrator through a portal back to Flagfall.
The party goes onto do some shopping for fine clothes. Afterwards they go to a bar and hear about the Unguided and the Nameless gangs. Koal asks the bartender if he'd seen a "red dumbass", the bartender tells them to avoid Umber Falsten as well. They leave the bar and go to an inn where the party splits off to their rooms. Lazuli attempts to brush Koal's hair before they decide to go check out the city.
Scottwick takes a look at the train tracks while Koal has a staring contest with a cloaked Ignis Noli. After leaving the train station, they stop at a book store and Koal obtains Mossie Maffick's book on her old adventures while Pem purchases a book on gala etiquette. They return to the inn to find that Umber has broken into their room and left Koal a note. They get ready and head to the gala.
At the gala they are surprised to see that Umber is not there. Sable sings by herself on the stage with Bismuth near by to act as a body guard. They meet Prince Vilho, Lachlan, Noah Rhodes, Lady and Lord Roseland as well as their daughter, Lady Vind and her right hand man Kris, and the Whitethorn family. Lachlan and Pem start a card game to bet and Lachlan looses. He gives Pem a letter from Umber which states that their gold has been stolen by The Unguided. Noah and Scottwick talk and Scottwick confesses that he doesn't feel like he is cut out for saving worlds.
The party meets with everyone, before Vind and Kris leave. The gala comes to an abrupt end when a suspicious member of the serving staff drops the chandelier, while yelling that Coverberry and Black Flagfall will never be united. Noah and Lachlan take the Prince a portal while Koal, Pem, Laz, and Puck book it to the door after the servant. Amari, Scottwick, and Banwon help the people who were trapped.
The party chases the servant through a portal in a wall which leads them to Black Flagfall. Talus stands on a half buried chess piece and declares them traitors of Black Flagfall. He throws a smoke bomb at them which covers them in a gross liquid and then calls for a Behir before fleeing. Noah arrives with the same half-elf stranger and warns them to protect their king piece, pointing to the chess pieces floating above their heads:
Amari and Banwon: Rooks
Puck and Koal: Knights
Pem and Scottwick: Bishop
Lazuli: King
The Behir has a chess piece above it's head as well, it's a crown with seven spikes- a Queen piece
