Koal Flint Clay

Koal Flint Clay

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Koal is undoubtably one of the most physically strong of the God's Hope, to which he shares the title with Amari. Through rigorous training, he was able to master martial arts, straining his body mentally and physically. Even so, there is still much he needs to learn. He is fast on his feet and difficult to hit, but he's not unstoppable.

Body Features

Koal's body is decorated with oni markings. There is a swirl on his chest and another one towards the end of his belly. On his face, he also has two sets of lines. He has two horns protruding from his forehead, also decorated in markings. Prominently, he has a set of tusks and elongated ears. His natural hair color is a dusty rose gold.   In his human form, Koal has tan skin, black hair, and brown eyes with a tinge of orange surrounding the pupil. His teeth are still pointedly sharp.   As of the end of Umber Recovery Arc (s2), Koal now has bellflower tattoos over his heart. Matching Umber's own. During his time at the Weaver's Complex, Koal also received a tattoo of a spider's web like all the other inmates to limit his access to ki. This was removed once the party left the complex.

Special abilities

Koal trained at the Temple of the Forgotten Elements, located in The Provinces. Due to this, Koal feels a closeness to the earth and all that inhabit it. This grants him cantrips and abilities related to the earth.   Post-Season 2, Koal has unlocked the ability to tap into the power of his mask. His mask was destroyed while reviving Crocid, but he took his mother's mask instead. This mask allows him to transform between three forms: his natural oni form, his human form, and a powered up oni form, which increases his earth magic. The powered up form only allows him to use it for up to five minutes at a time or else he takes points of exhaustion.   As of Season 3, it is revealed there is more to his earth abilities than his ki, which makes him a target of Wrath. According to Crocid, he was born with Brasslea's earth magic, which he inherited from his mother. After visiting the Krean Crater, this magic has been returned to the earth.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Koal is a punch-first, ask questions later type of guy. He flies by the seat of his pants and will rush into a fight without thinking first. His party members typically have to be the one to hold him back. If his friends are in danger, he's the first one to jump at the opportunity to punch whoever is responsible dead in the face.   Koal is not motivated by material wealth and possessions. He's usually self-driven to accomplish his own goals. He doesn't seek out evil to destroy, often the danger tends to follow him. However, as of late Koal cannot ignore the world around him. His and the party's destiny to be champions of the gods was never his favorite. With Lady Vind on the run and the rise of the Seven Deadly Sins. The world of Allotail is running out of time. Koal wants to find Wrath, because according to Crocid he is the one responsible for killing her. More importantly, Koal wants to understand this magic his mother left behind for him, and why Wrath wants to get rid of it so badly.   He has a lot he wants to do, but is unsure if there is enough time to accomplish it all.   Now that Umber is once again in control of his body and out of the Realm of Nightmares, Koal can finally put his grudge with Ginvorous to rest. He's still watchful, though. Not letting that whole thing slide so easily. While he would never outwardly admit it, he really just wants to settle down with Umber. Either by opening a bakery or sharing a house with the party.

Likes & Dislikes

Likes: Cooking & Baking, Cake (Red Velvet, especially), Romance Novels + Self-Help Books, Sunsets, Fighting, Hand-holding/Hugs/Touch, eggs benedict   Unsure: The Bible of Nice Ass and all related practices   Dislikes: Spiders, Wearing a Shirt/Restricting Clothing, Coleslaw, Cotton Candy, Dishonesty   In early sessions, Koal had a large dislike for mirrors. After coming to terms with his identity and appearance, they no longer bother him.

Hygiene

Koal keeps himself and his clothes clean. However, he hates to groom himself too much, as brushing his hair is a task he doesn't want to do as he feels it's unnecessary.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Main Party   Lazuli Lapre - Koal feels a deep connection to Laz. The two can get emotional around each other, but that's a good thing. Koal feels he can confide in Laz, but feels Laz is delicate. At this point, Koal will do everything he can to protect Laz. Laz was the first person to hug him in several years, and it was just what he needed in that time. The beetle fairy has continued to be a close friend and ally of Koal, like the little brother he never had. Through thick and thin, Lazuli has been there even when the situation was not his. He is always there to lend an ear and advice, especially when facing down an enemy. Koal admires his spells, they're powerful and colorful and just Laz. He also wants to take art lessons from him someday because Laz draws so good.   Scottwick E. Faneuil - Koal thinks of Scottwick as one of his closest friends. Scottwick, on multiple occasions, has broken through Koal's barriers and convinced him to have fun. The two are karaoke partners, the tiefling pulling him out of his shell oftentimes to be silly. An air of mystery still surrounds him. Scottwick has said things, often unintentionally, that strike a cord with Koal. He is reliable, but not the best at being truthful. Whatever his reasons, Koal respects that he wants to keep to himself and knows Scottwick will reveal things about himself when the time is right. He is thankful for being the subject of Lovey's healing but also less-so on being the reason Scottwick has to repair his ingenious invention all the time. Koal wants to touch all the buttons on Scottwick's machines but holds off as he's scared of breaking them. Even so, Koal is worried about Scottwick. He knows he blames himself for designing the machine that Vind would later abuse, even though none of that is his fault. He's also a little concerned about the situation with Gluttony but...while Scottwick doesn't make the best choices, his judgement of people and character is good (especially the suspicious waiter at the gala). Because Scottwick trusts Gluttony, Koal can trust him, too. After all, Scottwick was the one to trust Koal when no one else knew him very well.   Amari - Koal regards Amari as a close friend. The two worked together during the exorcism and Amari actively listened to him and took his suggestion. He is aware she's trying to convert him to Loviator but she's just trying to relate to him. He wants to get to know her a lot better. Her advice is a bit shady but there's some truth in there. In the past couple of months the two have become closer, he enjoys her company and asking questions about the Bible of Nice Ass. Sometimes Amari takes advantage of him but she's only trying to help, really! Koal thinks she's incredibly strong, both mentally and physically. Oftentimes her advice tends to be the best, and helped remind him about how important Umber was to him.   Mossie - Koal has known Mossie the longest, meeting her at Bailor's false banquet and going on multiple quests with her at the start of his adventuring career. When Clepsydra pulled him away from the fight with Elix, he was anxious to find out what happened to her, his only reference to her still being alive was the memoirs she continued to publish. Koal has bought every single copy and even lent one out to Umber one one occasion. Koal was relieved to see that she was still alive and well, though much older than the last time he'd seen her. While in distress over Scottwick's disappearance, he was extremely thankful to her for dropping everything to go help him. She expressed interest in his adventures and wrote a lot of it down. He hopes this mission into Silberhiem will end well, but he knows Mossie can handle herself really well. He admires the fact she can talk herself out of most any situation.   Koal looks up to Mossie as the sort of aunt he never had, he asks her for a lot of advice and takes it to heart. She was the first person he opened up to regarding his new appearance and was thankful she was understanding. He's a bit angry their time together was cut short but is hoping to make up for lost time in this next adventure.   Tourmaline - Koal thinks he's tired and has messed around with him before. He can't really pin him down. But he's curious, and a little wary Tourmaline will snap one day. Beneath that rough exterior, Koal can tell that Tourmaline cares.   Lovey - Lovey is a valued member of the team and has saved Koal's life on multiple occasions by spontaneously combusting to heal him.   Outside of Party   Umber - Umber and Koal started off with a very rocky, on-and-off relationship. Both of them had difficulty expressing their feelings for one another, and this tore them apart. Koal tried to confess multiple occasions but ended up chickening out at the last second before he could say something. He realized his feelings too late, and once Umber went to the Plane of Nightmares, Koal felt at more of a loss that he didn't express his feelings sooner. He ruthlessly hunted Umber and Ginvorous down. With the help of the party, he managed to make it to the Plane of Nightmares. For the first time in his life, Koal refused to fight, and let a possessed Umber fight him as much as he wanted, encouraging him to tell him his feelings. The gesture woke Umber up, and finally both Koal and Umber confessed to each other, with Umber asking Koal to get dinner. They walked out of the Plane of Nightmares together.

Koal and Umber did eventually have to part ways momentarily, but Koal could rest easy knowing that Umber was safe and back in the Prime Material Plane. Umber needed to reunite the Rogues, and Koal needed to start finding the gods' essences. Koal made a promise to both himself and Umber, that once everything was all over, no more adventuring, they were finally going to settle down.

In The Wild Hunt spinoff, Koal got a bellflower tattoo to match Umber's, which has translated to his in-campaign counterpart. It was ruled he got it done off-screen.

Kyven - Koal felt Kyven was a bit silly but really sincere. He trusts him greatly. Koal hopes he succeeded his shot with Seren and how his collection of autographs from the gods is going.

Edelwyn - Koal really loved talking with Edelwyn and the two had a lot of similarities. He connected with her quickly and wants to know more about her. He hopes she's doing well in whatever venture she's pursuing.

Pembrooke - Pem and Koal have a good relationship, the two often discuss cults. Koal knows that while she's in the party, she'll give him a good funeral if he dies. He wants to know more about her, as he finds her interesting.

Noah Rhodes - Koal met Noah before back in the Provinces. He trusts him somewhat, but is wary of Grimoire. He's also scared about what would happen if he hurt one of his horses so he tends to avoid him.

Bismuth - Koal knows if he breaks Umber's heart Bismuth will break his body. But, he's appreciative for all that Bismuth has done for the Rogues as well as the party. He's hoping to connect with him when they return to the Provinces.

Sable - Koal likes Sable, he can tell she tries her best to keep Umber out of trouble. Her words after Umber transformed struck a cord. He's looking forward to seeing her in the Isles and that there's no bad blood between them after the hideout incident.

Ignis - He won that staring contest, in case there's any confusion.

Alistair - Umber's best friend is a mimic? Umber's best friend is a mimic. He really said "aight, imma head out". Koal hopes Alistair will be alright in the Sword Coast.

Ginvorous
- Koal didn't trust Ginvorous for a long time, but has come to respect him. Both of them want to protect Umber and that faith clashes. Koal knows he will never be able to rid with him, so the two get along as much as they can. Occasionally bickering (with Ginvorous winning the arguement). He didn't appreciate Umber's trial that he was forced to be put in, but backed off after hearing it was Umber who wanted it.

Religious Views

Koal formerly was an advocate for many of the old gods of Allotail. Like Mossie, he is the second to receive the Blessing of Celeste, next to Kyven and Edelwyn. Koal no longer follows Celeste, as she is the one responsible for destroying Allotail.   Koal has always followed Crocid, the oni god of war. His faith was strong enough to revive the god from death, sacrificing his oni mask in the process. Though, Crocid still lacks his godly essence, which the two of them are both looking to recover.   Koal also heavily respects Clepsydra, Koina, Brasslea, Awane, Alwix, Seren, Kunzite, Gerin, Preacher, Obsidian, Howl, & Lachlan. Though, he hasn't spoken to Lachlan very much, and is afraid to.   Koal doesn't respect Bailor or Mallo, as the two of them have a tendency to hurt innocent people for their own personal gain. Bailor tricked him into to attempting to kill Crocid while he was possessed, a fact Koal is not willing to forgive.   Koal doesn't care for a majority of the sins, the only exception being Gluttony/Kindness. Koal especially doesn't like Wrath because he killed his mother.

Social Aptitude

Koal has never been good in a social situation. He gets worried people will get scared of him due to oni being few and far between (and even less so in their natural forms). In the past he used to hide himself with illusions that would drain his ki to the point where he'd collapse from exhaustion. Now with the party he feels more comfortable. He's still a tiny bit socially awkward but he's slowly improving the more time he spends with the party.

Hobbies & Pets

Koal loves to cook and bake in his free time with the proper ingredients. He hopes one day to be able to cook a meal for his party instead of relying on rations. Other than cooking, he enjoys pottery.   Koal would die for Kyven's pet chicken, Marvin.    Koal would also die for Lovey, but Lovey has died for Koal at least a dozen times, but the sentiment is there.

Speech

Koal speaks with an accent from the Egali Province.

A half-oni tiefling monk from the Origin Land, who loves to cook and punch things.
