Moorsworth

Moorsworth is a large town that lies on the western reaches of Jegoria. It is the last stop south on The Noble Road and the last stop west on The King's Road.   Moorsworth and the surrounding lands are ruled by Lord Byron Fomgarus, who recently took over the town after Lord Taylon Marforn and several other townsfolk were executed for treason in 1283 AYD.

Demographics

  • Felvaral Yllaralei, a half elf over a century years old, he owns the Yllaralei vineyard. He moved to the fort a decade ago from Ashminster and re-established himself here. He doesn't care for the other nobility in the area, and believes a honest days work should get honest pay.
  • Mallory Marforn, the widow of the executed Lord Taylon Marforn, she has three children, two sons and a daughter. Having lost most of their possessions and property, they live in a poorly maintained house, scraping by through gathering mushrooms and herbs in the woods, growing their own vegetables, and keeping chickens and goats.
  • Mother Ayrshire, the head of the Ayrshire clan, she is known to be stern and irritable, often complaining about the high taxes levied by Lord Fomgarus.
  • Eldon Rhazien, a minor noble who fled the gallows in Altaiesha in 1260 AYD, he bought the ironworks from it's previous owner.
  • Wiladoc Twofoot, he halfing owner of the Twofoot mill, he and his wife Keira have several small children.
  • Knight Commander Ascaline Mardurl, the knight in charge of the Northgate. She is known to be a decent person and has common sense in dealing with people.
  • Jergal Popadus, the bitter old man who owns the masonry workyard. He resents the high taxes of the local lord, but appreciates the cheap labor force of his eight indentured servants. He is known to bribe bureaucrats to delay approval of building permits until he hired to erect the structure.
  • Turkem Redsword, the owner of The Red Sword inn, is critical of the changes to the town since the new lord came into power, but doesn't actively take action or resist the new lord.
  • Leiola Brakwell, the owner of Brakwell Workshop, is a known socialite and has been involved in several affairs.
  • Tabilea Dawncrag, runs the Dawncrag Bindery. She inheirted the store from her father after he was executed for treason with Lord Taylon Marforn. She has no love for the new lord but refrains from open criticism as she has several younger siblings she has to support.
  • Daeahlin Stonebody, she runs the Tomekeeper Priory, and makes a point to stay out of local politics.
  • Lynvive Colglam - The town's head magistrate and overseer of the Halls of Judgement, she enforces the law sternly but fairly.
  • Gromide Cresmof - The other magistrate in town, he is known to be much harsher to wrongdoers, and is known to be a cleric of The Baron.
  • Barbrol Silvertounge - Owner of the Silvertongue Mercantile, he is a kind and good natured dwarf who doesn't deal in slaves.

Infrastructure

  • Yllaralei Vineyard: This vineyard was founded a decade ago by Felvaral Yllaralei, who claims to have learned wine making from the elves of Winekeep. His daughter, Edeli, runs the day to day operations of the winery.
  • The Marforn Homestead: This is the home of disgraced ex-noble Mallory Marforn and her children. Chickens and goats wander around the property's many vegetable gardens.
  • Konzer's Tannery: This tannery and the surrounding pasturelands are owned by a half-orc named Konzer, who gave himself the surname Tannerman. Konzer can often be seen beating and mistreating his workers, most of who are indentured servants, working off debts to the Lord Fomgarus or to the kingdom itself.
  • Hollson Fields: These expansive fields are filled with golden wheat owned by Wilheim Hollson. Worked by indentured servants, Hollson is the biggest private "employer" of the servants in the region. He works his workers hard but is not mindlessly cruel.
  • Ayrshire Homestead: This hillside overlooking the lake is home to the Ayrshire clan, a human family that have been in the region for centuries. They live in a large longhouse with makeshift added rooms sticking out the sides as the clan has expanded. They produce a variety of cheeses.
  • Rhazien Ironworks: Owned by Eldon Rhazien and located downhill from the dairy farm, the ironworks relies on the indentured servant class to work the stokers and cinder haulers. Rhazien does not do much of the work himself, leaving that to his dwarven smith Hukus Grandsunder.
  • Dewy Lake: The Dewy Lake is the primary reason people settled in this area years ago. It is about fifty feet deep in the middle, and is fed by an unnamed stream coming from the woods and several springs under the hill on which Moorsworth stands.
  • Twofoot Mill: This large and prosperous mill is owned by Wiladoc Twofoot. Wiladoc lives in the attached house and does not use any indentured servants.
  • Northgate: This impressive gate is made of a large timber door sheathed in iron plate, plus a portcullis on the inside. Numerous arrow slits overlook the approach to the gates and the interior passage, which is also covered my murder holes set in its ceiling. The upperfloor of the gatehouse serves as an extra barracks. The northgate is under the command of Knight Commander Ascaline Mardurl. She leads a detail of five officers who question everyone coming and going through the gate.
  • City Wall: The city wall is 30 feet high and ten feet thick at the base, with towers every 100 to 200 feet. The top of the wall has an eight foot walk and it is regularly patrolled. The towers also serve as extra barrack space.
  • Northgate Market: The market square lies just inside the Northgate. The market is quiet and orderly, being tightly regulated by the Lord Fomgarus. The lord requires farmers and livestock keepers to purchase special licenses from him to be able to sell in the market.
  • Jergal's Masonry: This large work yard belongs to Jergal Popadus, an expert stonemason. He relies on the indentured servants to do the manual labor in his building services and working the stone.
  • The Red Sword Inn: The Red Sword Inn is the best inn to be found in Moorsworth. Large and comfortable, it is owned and managed by Turkem Redsword and his clan of halfings. The inn is not cheap, but they pride themselves on providing a lavish table.
  • The Trusty Shield: Named for a heavily damaged shield that was used by a local hero in defeating a dragon (according to local legend), this tavern is often busy, usually it tends to be filled with off duty members of the garrison.
  • Barlys Stables: This large livery store, carriage shop, and stable is owned by Jalde Barlys. Jalde and his wife reside in one of the townhouses a few doors down.
  • Torkap Townhome: This townhouse belongs to Avir Torkap, a local money changer and money lender.
  • Brakwell Workshop: This workshop, owned by Leiola Brakwell, "employs" several indentured servants which Leiola does not hesitate to punish if they aren't keeping up with demand. The workshop produces bolts of cloth and other similar materials to sell to merchants throughout the region.
  • Eastgate Cemetery: A well tended and kept cemetery, the largest in town.
  • The House of Duty: This is the smaller temple in the city, where the people worship The Noble. The clergy maintain the Eastgate cemetery.
  • Eastgate: This smaller gate serves foot traffic only.
  • Garrison stable: This stable serves Lord Fomgarus's men, and can mount and equip up to 30 riders at one time.
  • Dawncrag Bindery: This cluttered shop is run by Tabilea Dawncrag, a wizard who trades in papermaking, book binding, inks, and books of all kinds.
  • Tomekeeper Priory: This small priory serves as a welcome sight to dwarves traveling through Moorsworth. The Priory was established by Daeahlin Stonebody, a dwarven monk in the service of Yorsweth Wisegiver. Daehlin built shrines to all the goodly dwarven deities in the priory so that all dwarves have a place to pray.
  • Lirfeud's Apothecary: Owned by Sandor Lirfeud, this shop sells potions, spell compotenents, alchemical mixtures, and poisons.
  • Halendy Armory: The best armory for miles around, it has stood in the fountain square for decades. Run by Maravie Halendy, her and her team of armorers (mostly her own children) create and sell most armors.
  • Jomtan's General Store: Owned by Mortin Jomtan, he purchased the store at auction after the previous owner was executed for treason with Lord Taylon Marforn.
  • The Conqueror's Fountain: This fountain consists of a pool with a statue of the ancient deity Jegor in the middle, wielding a sword, his boot crushing a goblin. The Fountain is a common meeting place.
  • The Halls of Judgment: The Halls of Judgement hold a pair of courtrooms, offices for the town's magistrates, and a large number of cells that are usually filled. The head magistrate of the town is Lynvive Colglam. She is served by a lesser magistrate, Gromide Cresmof.
  • The Barracks: Twenty of the lord's knights occupy and work out of this barracks. While they can be called upon to defend the town if needed, their primary duties are to patrol the roads and lands outside of Moorsworth to enforce the lord's laws and decrees, and to stamp out banditry.
  • Training grounds: The soldiers and town guards can often be seen training in this courtyard.
  • The Order of Scarlet Star : This building includes a chapel dedicated to The Teacher, as well as a large library, arcane work rooms, and other magical equipment. This belongs to Vashan Mitorklen.
  • Castle Moorsworth: Castle Moorsworth is not actually a castle, but a large octagonal tower more than 90 feet tall. The main door opens inside the walls, but there is a small, locked, postern that leads outside the wall and to the lake. It contains the lord's living quarters, kitchens, a banquet hall, offices for the town officials, a small chapel, extensive cellars, a well, and a dungeon for holding special prisoners.
  • The Halls of Service: This is the larger of the two temples in the town, the one attended by Lord Fomgarus himself and the one which the majority of the people attend. Lord Fomgarus encourages the townsfolk to attend the services, which paint The Baron in a good light.
  • Silvertongue Mercantile: Owned by Barbrol Silvertounge, these two large warehouses deal in commodities, buying up large quantities of materials and trade goods and shipping them to where they will get the best prices.
  • Mochire's Leather Goods: Owned by Bella Mochire, this store sells armor, clothing, saddles, tack and harness, and other goods made of leather. The rear of the building is the workshop and the front is the store. Bella oversees her two younger brothers and a cousin in doing the leatherworking, while she manages the business and the house.
  • The Red Tiger Company: The Red Tiger Company is a large mercenary band operating in Jegoria. They have around 30 mercenaries in Moorsworth. They are lead by a woman named Cedith Fresheil, a battle tested wizard.
  • Zargult's Arms: The best weaponshop in town, it is run by a cruel, sour-tempered half-orc named Zargult Steelsmelter. He employs several slaves for running the forges and doesn't pay his apprentices well.
  • The Drunken Dwarf: Lorhane Stoutmaker runs The Drunken Dwarf, a tavern favored by the average citizens but not the soldiers and knights of the town. Her sons are all adventurers and the walls are adorned with their trophies and mementos.
  • Lord Fomgarus's Granary: This granary holds the grain purchased by Lord Fomgarus from the local farmers each year. Fomgarus sets the price that he purchases the grain for.
  • Dilapidated House: This house has stood vacant for several years.
  • Aldequin Froid's House: The white haired wizard of Moorsworth, he is known to take apprentices and hire out adventurers to fetch unusual materials or complete other difficult tasks.
  • Southgate: This gate is identical in construction to the Northgate.
  • Town Sewers: A locked grate prevents entry into the town's sewer system.
