Kingdom of Jegoria

The nation of Jegoria is arguably still the most powerful in the region of Umor, though weaker then they were at their founding. Created after the death of Jegor by his son, Jegor the Second, he easily conquered the largest portion of the continent, starting a great war with his half-brother Tivel in the East and his other half-brother Dormand in the north. Maintaining the conquering spirit of Jegor, they would war with Tivelania, despite pleas to come to peace from within their own borders, after a few centuries, the feud was so ingrained that it could not be stopped. Combined with Tivel's insistence that he will rule the whole island as the One True God, it may be by Jegoria's weakening of the nation that they have been kept at bay.   Jegoria is controlled by its monarchy, preferring to stick to the old way, and much of the inner workings of the country are controlled by the landowners and nobility. They have a large military on both the land and the sea, as well as other less reputable ventures.

Structure

The Ruling Classes
  • The Royal Family: The King has the final say in all matters political and militarial.
  • The Lords: The local Lords rule over their territories and have the power to make and enforce their own laws, taxes, etc. so long as they do not conflict with the King's laws, taxes, etc.
  • Magistrates: Each region has a Magistrate, tasked with the collection of the royal taxes for the treasury. They also represent the crown in legal matters, and they serve as judge for minor offenses.
  • Sheriffs: Each region also has a Sheriff, who is tasked with enforcing the crown's laws and royal decrees. He is judge and executioner in these matters. Depending on the size of the region, a Sheriff may have a number of deputies.
All these positions are appointed by the King, and serve at his discretion.   The Aristocrats
  • The Noble Class: The nobility are generally made up of established wealthy families and their retainers. They are granted the title of Lord or Lady but they do not wield the power of the Lords of the ruling class, whose titles also include their dominion. For example, there are two lords in Eagle's Landing, Lord Vakius Orivor, and Lord Carmen Saclor. Lord Carmen Saclor however also has the title "Lord of the Darkwood Forest" because he is the Lord of that region, while Lord Vakius Orvior is simply a wealthy wizard.
  • The Clergy: Religious officials of The Baron are treated with respect and admiration by the public, and legal authorities often turn a blind eye to their misdeeds because of their divine influence.
  • The Merchant Class: Merchants that own land or shops and employ other people are generally treated with higher respect amongst the nobility and the ruling classes, as they are seen as job creators and up-and-comers.
While, according to the letter of the law, these people have the same rights as the common folk, they are often afforded special considerations and rights by the local lords, and their testimony tends to be more persuasive to legal officials and the people as a whole.   The People   There is little distinction between the rest of the people of Jegoria, save for the fact that the majority of Jegorians view humanity as the superior race because Jegor was a human and the God of Humanity.

History

Jegoria was founded in 56 BYD by Jegor the Second, Jegor's first child and a popular military leader. After his father's death, he crowned himself Jegor Peacebringer, and claimed all of Umor as his domain. He was opposed by: Bernard Cellizino, a popular lord and bastard son of Jegor, he founded the kingdom of Levmonza with the support of the farming populace and the nobility.   Jaxon Lauront, the second royal child of Jegor and his human wife, oversaw all the faiths on the island and was in charge of appointing the heads of the churches, he laid claim to the north lands, quickly establishing a border with Levmonza and founding the nation of Dormand. Tivel Threedrich, the fourth royal child of Jegor, was a powerful wizard who spent many nights alone in his tower, unraveling the mysteries of the universe. He killed Jegor on the island of Almas with the assistance of Asmodeus, made himself the new god of humanity, and founded the nation of Tivelania, ruling over it as the God who walks Among us.   Jegor II's younger brother, Barrett, named himself Barrett Lawbringer and declared the middle portion of the continent, Altaiesha, and effectively became a vassal state of Jegoria, working with his brother to subjugate the people there and go to war with his other brothers.   During The Year of Darkness, Jegoria largely drew inward, as did the other countries, dealing with their own internal problems caused by the darkness and the undead hordes. The other three major countries of the region (Dormand, Levmonza, and Tivelania) decided to share the rule and control of the city of Croci during the time.   In 836 AYD, Jegoria's capital city of Norford was sacked and burned by Devon, the Barbarian King of the Skalsgrad region. He lead an army of barbarians through the country, burning and pillaging all the way there, and finally killed King Gaelin Peacebringer the 4th, along with his wife Gabliena. He then killed all their sons until he got to the last of his line, a young boy of ten, Tamoss, who he threatened to kill if Jegoria continued interfering in the region.   In 1260 AYD the region of Altaiesha declared independence from Jegoria, starting a war between the two countries that continues to this day. Jegoria considers the citizens of Altaiesha as their citizens, and has been known to imprison citizens of the country not involved in the war effort and conscript them into service. They also have established a trade embargo and have been known to sink ships carrying Altaieshian goods for trade.   In 1288 AYD, Lord Carmen Saclor, Lord of the Darkwood Forest, walked into the throne room in the palace, quickly drew his sword and beheaded King Gavin Reynold the IV, before surrendering to the guards and demanding his right to a trial by combat.  His son, Reynold V, a gifted knight, served as his own champion, and Lord Saclor killed him in the combat.  By the ancient laws of the land, Lord Saclor had been found to be righteous by the gods, and had to be let go.  This threw the Kingdom into chaos, as the new king, Reynold VI, was an infant, and the local lords now squabble and bicker as to who should be appointed regent, while fighting amonst themselves to increase their own territory during the absence of a strong king.  Lord Saclor meanwhile, returned to Eagle's Landing, declaring his lands independent, and aligning with the Republic of Altaiesha.     The current King of Jegoria is Gavin Reynold the VI (Age 4).
