Julian Chamberlain in jail

Julian Chamberlain is thrown in jail for the murder of Raynor Burnham and conspiring against the Kingdom of Jegoria. He is interrogated for weeks and scheduled to be executed at noon on his birthday, but is let out by an unknown benefactor.

After being arrested for the murder of his friend Raynor Burnham, and the evidence found suggesting he was conspiring with the rebels of Altaiesha to bomb the palace and kill the king, Julian was sentenced to death. King Gavin Reynold the IV had his execution delayed however, so that he could be tortured into giving up his conspirators.   Julian was tortured but did not give in, as he could not. As an additional punishment, they executed him adopted parents when he would not cooperate, and set the day of his death for noon of the 16th of New Summer, which happened to be his birthday.   Try as he might, Julian was not able to escape the cell, the guards spit on him and "forgot" to feed him and would wake him in the night with loud noises to ensure he was as uncomfortable as possible. At midnight of the 16th, hours before he was to be executed, Julian woke to find his cell door unlocked, and several guards killed. The killer had left a note, along with a sack of gold and new clothes and equipment for Julian. The note read simply: "Now we own you. We will be watching." When he put the note down, he noticed a strange black symbol on his hand, but he could not identify it. Not wanting to waste time, he donned his new clothes and equipment and left the jail.
