Ker Character in Alendia | World Anvil

Ker

Ker is the goddess of sleep and death in the The Pantheon of the Twelve-Gods. She met withRondra in 9735 b. BF and was after Gwenth the second person to join him, forming three of 'The Divine Four'. She was added to the Four Quarter Pantheon in 8990 b. BF by King Secular as the god of loyalty.

Appearance

Over time the depiction of Ker changed a lot. In times of the Four Quarter Pantheon, she was depicted and worshipped as a male god, just like Gwenth. The church of the sun and King Secular didn't want to allow female deities in their pantheon and since only a few people knew about Ker's true appearance, her gender and appearance were easy things to disguise. Ker's sex was corrected in 8796 b. BF after allowing females gods to belong to the pantheon. However, people were insecure about Ker's actual race. Rondra described her in her journals as a creature, which didn't age throughout all the years. However, the Humans claimed to be Ker one of them. Therefore she is usually depicted as a young pale woman with black hair, dressed in black robes. She is surrounded by ravens and sometimes wears a death mask and wields her dagger or scythe. Ker has some similarities to the classical representations of the Ravenqueen.

Biography

Overview

Nothing is known about Ker's life before she met Rondra, almost as if she didn't exist before. They met in 9735 b. BF and since that point Ker didn't part with Rondra for a single second. She was part of 'The Divine Four' and stayed with Rondra even after Talvin, Phex, and Gwenth parted with him. She was on his marriage, went with him on almost all of his political journeys, and also accompanied him in the second holy expedition and for the hunt ofThe Nameless. It is said, that she was on his deathbed and even escorted him to the astral plane and beyond. However, she didn't die after Rondra's death and sometimes some descriptions of an obscure creature wandering through the streets of Lionstone seem to fit for Ker.
Ker was added to the Four Quarter Pantheon in 8990 b. BF as the god of loyalty. Because many people believe that Ker can not die, because she can resist death, her aspect was changed from loyalty to death and sleep in 8796 b. BF.

Influence

Ker is a Free God, which means she has no temples or churches dedicated to her. Compared to all other Free Gods, she is no patron of any specific group of people, since obviously nobody doesn't want to pray to the goddess of death for anything. However, the church of The Nameless (The Dark Church) disguised itself as the First Church of Ker. Ker's influence is relatively low, but her religious symbol is the classical symbol on graves of deceased people.
