The Nameless Character in Alendia | World Anvil

The Nameless

One against nine? That isn't fair. You should've brought thousands!
The Nameless

The Nameless also called the Nameless One, or the Thirteenth is the antagonist of the The Pantheon of the Twelve-Gods. His goal is to return to Alendia and assert his power by claiming every continent.

Appearance

The Nameless is described in Rondra's Journals. Rondra and the Nameless One met in 9677 b. BF, resulting in an immediate enmity. He is described as tricky, sneaky, aggressive, ruthless, chaotic, evil, and strong. The Nameless shares many attributes with The Elder Dragons, which often leads to the presumption he is a creature or a relative of them. Rondra describes The Nameless as a humanoid, who can alter his appearance.
After the Nameless One was banished from the Material Plane by some of the Twelve-Gods, he found a way to secure his influence by sending avatars of him to Alendia. These avatars can appear as different creatures and are under the control of The Nameless without him needing to enter the material plane. The most common one is a human in heavy plate armor, wielding two spears and a sword.

History and The Dark Church

The first mention of The Nameless in Rondra's Journals is in 9677 b. BF thirty years after the first holy expedition. Rondra describes him as a potential threat to the security and peace of all humans. It is said, that The Nameless was a driving force to help the orcs rebuilding their forces after the defeat in the first holy expedition. After the second holy expedition in 9130 b. BF, Rondra dedicates himself to hunt down The Nameless. With the support of Ker, a few powerful wizards, and many human soldiers, he eventually banishes The Nameless from the material plane in 9057 b. BF. The body of the Nameless was imprisoned by the powerful wizards, known as 'The Circle of Justice'. The location of this prison is kept secret, preventing any returns of The Nameless.
However, the influence of The Nameless couldn't be nullified. In 9054 b. BF, after Rondra's death, the humans declared Rondra as their diety and The Nameless as the official antagonist. This lead to secret gatherings of humans, which neglected the traditional lifestyle of humans and therefore their religion as well. The church of The Nameless was found. However, these 'churches' were more like secret meetings in small groups around that time. In 8990 b. BF the Four Quarter Pantheon was found and for the first time the church of The Nameless had a chance to rise by disguising it as 'The first church of Ker'. Although this church wasn't officially accepted, it wasn't illegal either. It is said that due to the influence of The Nameless and his avatars, the church was able to stay covered and hidden. Only in 8765 b. BF, the empire realized the true purpose of 'The first church of Ker'. It resulted in many attempts to destroy the church and remove all the followers, but the church of The Nameless prevailed. However, the influence and power have been weakened by a lot and members of the church are still hunted down up to this day. The goal of the church of The Nameless (also called The Dark Church) is to undermine the churches and temples of the Twelve and prepare the arrival of The Nameless.
