Sorcerer

Channelers of the Anon

Sorcerer, or sorceress if female, are those who have a natural ability to manipulate the Anon (Magic) beyond most others. Many believe that individuals are born as sorcerers. This is a twist of the truth. Having the innate ability does not make a sorcerer. Like their counterpart the Wizard, it is through training and study that one can becomes a sorcerer. Both the wizards and the sorcerers have the same fundimental sourse for their abilities, Elf ansetory.

Many species, like elves and Fairy, are magical creatures, with this ability to manipulate magic to varying extents built into their very core. This genetic code was 'gifted' to Human in the ancient past through the close relations of elf and humans. The descendants passing it through the ages. Most Normon, and many Ismon cultures have some elven blood in their lineage. Many live their entire lives never tapping into this raw power or even knowing they can. The few that understand their heritage, often those of the noble class, join wizarding colleges to hone their skills in casting, becoming wizards.

The true sorcerers on the other hand, are those that do not take this path. Their paths are as varied as the individual. Some learn Casting here and there from another sorcerer, or even a wizard. Others find tomes that describe the art, practicing the skills needed to cast on their own. Most, however, join cults, covens, or orders that teach the sorcerer a way to channel the magic within themselves outward.

Sorcerers are, in theory, far more common than their wizard cousins. Across Novyum, and to a lesser extent all Ethae, there are countless people with traces of magical bloodlines. Often those than can, learn a few basic cantrip like skills, such as creating temporary lights or lighting cooking fires with magic. It is enough for most. It is the ones that wish to advance this innate power, to growing it, and learning now to control it that become sorcerers. These are far rarer.

While we have been using the term sorcerer, it might be more fitting to use sorceress throughout this text. Sorceresses are far more common than their male counterpart, at least in humans. For humans, the Anon channeling through the body can take its toll. 'The fuel of the Anon is human life' as the Prydian proverb goes. Men who cast strong magic often will often find themselves sicky and weak physically. Some suffer premature aging. Women do not suffer these effects, but will find themselves barren, unable to have children. The life force in their wombs protecting them from the negative effects through sacrifice. This effects noble families less than the commoners. This is believed to be that their genetics have higher elven traces within their bloodlines.

Sorcerer Casting: Where wizards force the magic to their wills, sorcerers flow with the Anon around them. Sorcerers move like a dancer when casting, manipulating the magic like the wind moves a leaf. The verbal components, if they use any at all will be whispering words.
