Katurix
Katurix is a man chosen by the Gwraig to help save Ghealas. Originally a Phoneutria battle-priest, he is spurred into action when his longtime friend Eadgifu is murdered. The son of a Belhken noblewoman ( Lambseare ) and a ruined Lodonesia politician, he was sold into slavery after his mother was chased out of Lodonesia and his father was sent to prison.
He meets Eadgifu when his indebted family return from the Great Salt Path , and she notices his intelligence and buys his freedom. Katurix was shunned by his people for his parentage, having no paternal or maternal tie to the village. He was however, revered by the priests as they sensed he had Silicon Sickness and made a battle priest. He was eventually recruited into the Arakhne army that would overtake Belanos territory in Ghealas.
However, Katurix had no tie to the land nor to his adopted family. When the Gwraig told him of a Queen, Sarhilde , trapped in the forest by Aethelred (a Dolomedes chieftain), he switched sides.
Katurix began to sympathize further and further with the Belanos, and meets a Belanos nobleman whom he falls in love with. They begin an affair secretly, but it’s soon no secret. Katurix is forced to act fast and betray the Arakhneans, which allows for the Belanos to get a crucial upper hand on a battle.
First however he has to lift the curse put on him by Lindru of Larix’s Phoneutrian lover, an oracle for one of the largest Arakhnean armies. He manages to gain the favor of the Gwragged and launches an attack on her, defeating the army and drowning them in the sea. He then frees Lindru, who was being held hostage by the Arakhneans and was going to be used for a human sacrifice.
