Gwraig

The Gwragedd (singular: Gwraig) are a species of humanoid creatures who dwell primarily underwater in the Western area of Morisulis. They commonly inhabit the freshwater lakes and rivers of mountains. They have somehow survived in underwater caves and behind waterfalls despite the pollution of lakes and although some have adapted to it, many struggle to find food and habitat. They are notorious for marrying women, promising them a spell of immortality and luring them to take them to the sea, where they can live out their short lives in hopefully fresher water. However, they cannot stand the salt and often decintegrate quickly, becoming the sea-foam which washes ashore with waves.   In Arakhne culture, the Gwragged are called Maegth Khelekeras (Khelekaras' Maidens) and are feared. Many Dolomedes carry an iron knife when they hunt solely for warding off Gwragged, as the Gwragged are poisoned by iron. The Gwragged can create illusions and often adopt familiars who can lure hunters into their waters.   The Gwragedd can grant incomplete immortality. Their conditional death is the holder of the comb becomes allergic to saltwater and can die by drowning. However unlike other species, the user can live indefinitely as long as they have the comb on their person. They are distinguishable by the quartz combs they keep, which are imbued with a spell of immortality. Giving their comb to a human means giving up their immortality. Their Queen, Morgen, lives in an oasis in the desert Salt Path, and will only speak to those who bring river water to quench her thirst.
