Emmyth Questline

Background

Emmyth Moonshadow is suspicious of house Pazerski. She finds it most strange that they trusted bandits like Thurh enough to disband their own soldiery. She has for a while wondered what happened to those men, if they are still in Pazerski Barony, or if they have left. Though the baron, Adok Pazerski, has always seemed friendly, she finds him offputting, and she suspects that he is far more dangerous then he lets on.   As such, she wishes to hire someone from the outside, someone who can freely investigate the matter. She considered sending some of the other soldiers, but not only are they too stupid to do the job properly and with stealth in mind, they are also likely to let Thurh know, which could blow the matter out of proportion. So, instead she wishes to hire some outsiders to do the job.   Reality
The truth of the matter is that Emmyth is correct, something is up. The soldiers all went to Wysepka, and took up roles as the town guard when they were disbanded. They now serve the mayor, Pavlina Strachow, who is secretly the cousin of baron Adok Pazerski. They are all part of the larger plot of The Hidden Current to overthrow The Sorcerer, Malakesh. This is something Emmyth will greatly oppose, as she is deerly loyal to Thurh. However, if Emmyth is informed of the mind control over Thurh, she might turn on Malakesh, in the hopes of releasing Thurh. See, she has followed Thurh, and though brutal as he is, she cares deeply for her friend, and she owes him her life after a battle in far away Zhun.

The Quest

I imagine the structure to be something like this:
  1. Players arrive, and somehow Emmyth is made aware, perhaps they go to see Adok Pazerski, the baron, first, and she is made aware. Either way, she tasks them with finding out more about the dissapeared soldiers. If she has been made aware of the attack in Wysepka, she will be suspicious of any outsiders, but, as she has been ordered not to engage until she has recieved backup, she might keep them in the barony by giving them a task as she waits for more troops to return. If she is decieved into thinking they are not those from Wysepka, then she may see this as an oppertunity to prove themselves to her, and the lordship at large.
  2. After having been tasked with the quest, they begin their search, and they follow the clues outlined later on. Eventually they either conclude that there is no plot (if they fail to gather clues), or they discover some of the information regarding The Hidden Current.
  3. They choose what to do with this information
Siding with The Hidden Current
If they come into contact with members of The Hidden Current (Filip the logging master/trainer/veteran,Fedor the steward, or perhaps even the baron Adok himself), these members will seek to recruit them. They will offer them a task to undertake, all in order to prove their worth. They will be sent out to retrieve the shipment from the U.M.T that has yet to arrive. If they do this, they might come to the Statue of King Marick Czerwanya, and find the dead guard, and the Displacer Beast with it. It's also likely they might be confronted by Emmyth if they take this path, as she will be suspicious of their seeming inactivity.   For more details, see the joining section of The Hidden Current's article.   Siding with Emmyth
If our heroes find out information about The Hidden Current, and hand it over to Emmyth, she will thank them and reward them with some gold. If she has taken a liking to the characters, she might offer them another job, and a possible place among the ranks of The Lordship of Katrach. She won't act immediately on the information given, as she fears Thurh's wrath if she starts a conflict with one of the vassal houses, instead she will send a messanger to Thurh, asking him to come to Pazerski Barony, and to bring men, loads of them.   The further quest is to investigate the priest of the Earthmother, and if found guilty, to kill her. Emmyth will explain that the priest is most likely in league with the Wierno Loyalists, but that she has not been able to fully direct her attention to this matter. This is fully false. The truth is that Emmyth doesnt feel comfortable with the priest in town, knowing that she has quite impressive magical capabilities. She doesn't want her men in Pazerski Barony to die, so she would much rather send these newcomers to have a go at it. Plus, she could always be a rebell.

Clues

There were 12 soldiers who served house Pazerski before Malakesh became lord of Katrach, and as we know, these were all officially dismissed when Malakesh became lord. However, these soldiers instead moved to Wysepka, and became the guard ot that town, pretending to have always been from the town and the barony. This has been kept secret from most everyone, except the leaders of The Hidden Current. Locals in Pazerski barony won't know of this, and even those who are part of the militia, and aware of the plot, are not aware of these 12 soldiers in Wysepka.   However, there are clues, and if one decides to, they might be able to put things together, and realize where our soldiers might be. In the process, they might also uncover more information about The Hidden Current, and their plot to overthrow the Sorcerer. So, below are all the clues for the existence of The Hidden Current's plot, and it's details.   Missing Soldiers
In total, 12 soldiers dissapeared, and there are three families in Pazerski-Wiezek whom most of these soldiers came from. One family from which a set of three siblings turned to join the barons soldiery came from. Another from which came two soldiers, both adopted. Then the third, Krzysztof's family, from which the only former knight of house Pazerski came from.   Krzysztof's Family
Krzysztof's family is fairly large, with a total of five living members. Krzysztof's older brother, his wife, and their three children. The children are all under the age of 10, and they have little to say of their uncle Krzysztof, as only one of them vaguely remembers him. Regarding information, the brother of Krzysztof, Artek, and his wife, Ela, are the only one's able to give any information really.    Krzysztof had considered telling his family, but the fact that he had a secret romantic relationship with his Artek's wife, Ela, made him not do it. He feared that she might try to follow him, risking the whole repositioning of the soldiery. In truth, it's likely that Krzysztof is the father of all the three children, though nobody can be fully sure. It is however imprortant to mention that all of Artek's children don't quite look like him, for example, they all have blond hair, like their mother and like Krzysztof, but Artek's hair is brown.   Artek and Ela have a very strained relationship. Though Artek never even considered that she had been unfaithful, he has still become aggravated with her over the last six years. She wen't from being happy and active, to grumpy and explosive towards him. They still live together, but it's obvious they have their difficulties.   When gathering information on these figures, they will openly tell you that they are both saddened by the dissapearance of Krzysztof, and that they blame house Pazerski for this. They will say that they assume he left the land to become a hedge knight, or a mercenary down south in the Brask Lands perhaps. However, those who are insightful might notice that Ela seems far more sad/upset about the whole ordeal.    Now, Ela was left with a note and some coin from Krzysztof before he left. She awoke on the day of his dissapearance to a letter, and a pouch with 50 gold. In the letter it said that Krzysztof hoped they would come to be together once more, when the land is free from it's tyrants. It also said to use the money for herself and her children. Now, Ela understood this as Krzysztof considering house Pazerski as tyrants, though Krzysztof meant Malakesh, since he is loyal to house Pazerski. She keeps all of this dug-down a bit into the forest, and she likes to come and dig it up every now and then, just to remind herself of her soulmate.   When our players are leaving the home, if they have not uncovered the truth, then a young boy, the neighbours son of nine, will take whoever looks the kindest of the party to the side. They will explain that every Ela goes out every night, a short way into the forest. This nine year old is convinced she is an evil hag, and he dreams of being a heroic knight one day. He hopes that by helping these travelers, they will allow him to accompany them on their amazing adventures. His name is Lukasz, and he is brave and adventurous, with messy bright red hair.    The sibling family
There is only one member left of this family. The mother of all the three soldiers who dissapeared. She is now in her late 70s, and she has become quite delusional. She thinks her children are just out playing, and will return home from their favourtie spot soon. She describes this spot as a lively little place up north, where they had houses and everything. This is an allegory for the truth, though she doesnt know it.   Adopted family
When the two soldiers of this family dissapeared, their adoptive father set out to find his children. He refused to accept that they had simply gone up in smoke after being dismissed, so he set off north, to find out what had happened to his sons. He has not been seen in the barony for six years now, and if locals are asked, they will say that he simply left one day around six years ago. Locals might also say that he was the adoptive father of two of the soldiers, or something like that.   Their home now stands abandoned. No smoke rises from the house, the grass around the house is a bit overgrown, and no light can be seen inside. The frontdoor is locked, as is the backdoor. With a little time spent to investigate the home one can easily gather that nobody has been inside for some time.    Inside the home you can however find a clue. See, in the primary bedroom, where the father used to sleep, there is a small letter on the bed.

Father, we heard you had gone out in search for us. This is ill-adviced, and if you find this letter, please return to your normal life. We are both well, though more we can not say. Doubt not father, one day we shall see one another once more. Take care father, and please stay safe.

This letter was written by Fedor, who was ordered by the Baron Adok to write it. It was meant to dissuade the father from searching for his children, and it was written nearly four years ago as of 1306 AR. A character who has been in Fedor's office, or seen his writing in other places might recognize the writing.   The logging-masters home
The logging-master, Filip, lives in the home where one of the soldiers of the barony used to live. If our players ask around, they could probably learn this, and that the place was renovated by a couple of the loggers five years ago, when Filip had recently moved in. This could lead them to investigate Filip's home.    Filip's Home
In Filip's home there are two primary clues to be found. First, the fact that his basement is a personal armory, as well as training room, clearly suggests that he is a formidable soldier, something you might not expect from the logging-master of the small wiezek. The second major clue to be found here is not actually inside the home, but in the words of locals. If our heroes speak to someone not in the militia, then they might hear of how most logger have become lazy as of late, and especially Filip. Apparently they claim that Filip spends many hours just wandering the woods as of late. Truly outrageous. Some people have even tried to alert the steward of this laziness, but nothing has been done yet. Obviously, he is actually spending this time training the militia.   Otherwise, the newly renovated home is very well-built. Though it has far more space than one person needs. There are a total of three bedrooms, two on the first floor, and one primary on the second floor, where Filip sleeps. The basement is fairly large, and it is clear that the space was constructed specifically for the purpose of being an armory/training room. All the bedrooms are prepared for usage, but never used. They exist in case the soldiers from Wysepka, or another ally of house Pazerski needs a place to stay beyond the keep.   Warrior peasants?
If for some reason our players get in a fight with the locals in the wiezek, there is a good chance they might notice how relatively skilled these peasants are. They are after all training most days to become warriors.    Furthermore, if someone spends a bit of time in the logging-camp, just a short walk south-west of the wiezek, then they might find it strange how few folk are there at one time compared to how many who are not in the wiezek. If they investigate further, then they might just find a whole lot of people who take other smaller paths out from the logging-camp, and if they follow them, then they might find the Pazerski training grounds.
