Statue of King Marick Czerwanya

Just south of the crossroads between Pazerski keep, Wysepka, and Siwiec ruins, lies a mark of times past. The statue was built some four hundread years ago, in honour of King Marick Czerwanya, king of Granic. King Marick was a famous ruler, but the statue was built in his honour after he funded the construction of Siwiec Keep, a bit east of here. Though the road once went right by the statue, it has over time shifted a bit east, and now the statue is barely visible from the road.   Still, one who is perceptive might just make out the vine covered statue a bit away. It lies in a lower area between two small hills, so though it is tall, it's highest point is just above the hilltops near it. In this little mini-valley there are a few smaller birches that almost create a circle around the statue, though the structure is quite a bit higher then these smaller birches. Towards the west, behind the statue, these birches become more dense, forming a Woodlet, Copse, Spinney, or Hammock.   The statue itself is covered in vines, cracked in a few places, and weather by age and nature. It depicts a king in his throne. Crown on his head, and scepter in his hands. The statue is roughly four times the size of a normal person. The eyes of the statue are hollowed out, once having contained gems, though they were stolen long ago. Around it grows a number of siberian iris's, purple and proud.   Far away description
As you look out over the landscape, ever observant, you see what seems almost like the top of a head sticking up a bit away. Though it is hard to make out from this distance, it seems to be some sort of stone, sticking up over the hill tops just a few hundread feet away.   On hill description
Now, staninng on a smaller hilltop, you see a smaller dell spread out before you, maybe a hundread feet wide or so. It is filled with short, yet thick, birches. What immediately catches your attention though is what seems to be a clearing in the wooded dell, in the middle of which the torso, and crowned head of a statue seems to rise up. The lower part of the statue is hidden behind the thick canopy.   In the clearing
Stepping into the clearing the statue comes into full view. A large, marble made, seat on a plateu. Atop the seat sits a man of marble. Tall, and straight backed. His left hand stretched out, with a mighty scepter in it's grip, the other resting. The upper body, now in full view, seems to be clad in a set of armour, with chains having been carved from the marble. Instead of eyes, there is but empty holes, and atop the bald head sits a simple, yet elegant crown.   Clearly though, this statue has been weather by age and nature. Both the seat, and body, have many cracks, and all of the statue is covered in vines. Around the statue, lay pieces of marble, some half submerged in the hard dirt, and some grown over by the roots of nearby trees.   The plateau and plaque
The pleateau that the statue stands upon is made from smooth stone, and there is a plaque inscribed with the following text:
King Marick Czerwanya, first of his name, King of Granic
Generosity does not even near a word beffiting his grace. A man of honour, truth, and grace King Marick was. We owe him our home, our lives, and our legacy. Forewer, we shall loyally serve, and lest we be turned to ash and rubble, our hearts shall never crumble. We are Siwiec, and we are loyal, till the end.
  Not alone
Though not obvious at first, there is another who is at the statue, or rather, he was at the statue. This was the guard Andrzej, who has hitched his mule a bit into the thicker part of the grove behind the statue. See, as detailed in this article. Sadly, or not, he is dead. He was killed by a displacer beast. If the players decide rest at the statue, they will be attacked in the night by the creature.   There are a number of signs of the creature:
  • Andrzej's wounds are not what you would expect from a wolf, or other common beast. Instead, he has many piercings, with each one being fairly wide, and having torn up the inside of the wound
  • There are tracks of movement near the body. Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that the creature has 5-7 legs (6), and that the movement seems a bit off. This is because of the displacement effect.
  • The lower half of Andrzej is eaten, with only his upper body remaining. The bones are also consumed, which requires a suitably dangerous creature. Displacer Beasts also enjoy playing with their food before killing them, which this could be an indicator off.
If they choose, the players can track the displacer beast's tracks. If they roll high enough on survival, have them find the Displacer Beast in the middle of it's next kill. It's hunting a deer maybe a mile away or so.
