The Mirecourt Compact governs the Glimmering Fen through a web of subtle influence and alchemical tradition. Officially, no single ruler presides over the region—but behind every moss-slick law, unusual trade route, or missing rival lies the Compact’s hand.
Comprised of arcane aristocrats, swampborn sages, and potion-baron dynasties, the Compact traces its roots back to the early days of The Fracture War, when the fens hid more than just fugitives. It was then that the founding members sealed a pact not just with each other, but with the fen itself. They became its keepers, and it became their throne.
Each Compact member wears an emblem of their station—rare alchemical sigils or masks of lacquered reed—but never reveals their face to outsiders. Even their names are passed down like inherited tinctures, with new heirs assuming their predecessors’ identities. Their influence is exerted through the Gladebound, agents trained in memory magic, contract law, and herbal manipulation.
