Golynn

The Golynn are a rare and resilient offshoot of Beastfolk, descendants of ancient pangolin-like beings shaped by Tagyn, Goddess of Beasts, to embody steadfastness, patience, and protective strength. Cloaked in dense overlapping scales that shimmer like polished stone or worn bronze, they are walking bulwarks—natural guardians who prefer peace but are born ready for war. Calm, deliberate, and immensely enduring, the Golynn are often seen as slow to act, but once set upon a path, nothing sways them from it.

Averaging slightly taller than the average Human when upright, Golynn often move with a rolling, hunched gait, conserving energy and shifting their weight with careful balance. Their arms end in strong clawed hands, used for digging, climbing, and, when needed, tearing through armor. Their backs and tails are heavily plated in keratin scales, often adorned with runes or carvings that tell personal or ancestral stories. When threatened, Golynn can curl into a ball of armored flesh, a defensive stance that renders them almost impervious to harm.

Culturally, Golynn value heritage, oaths, and the preservation of knowledge. Oral historians, ritual carvers, and memory-keepers are all held in high regard. Communities often form around a central "Hearth Keeper," an elder responsible for guiding their people with wisdom and emotional clarity. Golynn rarely speak without purpose, but when they do, their words are measured, profound, and rooted in experience. They often serve as judges, advisors, and mediators in mixed-species settlements, trusted for their fairness and lack of bias.

Though slow to trust outsiders, a Golynn’s loyalty is unwavering once earned. They are especially protective of the weak, viewing strength not as domination but as the responsibility to shield others. It is Common for them to act as bodyguards, wardens, or druids tied deeply to the land. Many are drawn to sites of ancient conflict or wounded wilderness, acting as slow but persistent forces of healing and restoration.

Golynn are deeply spiritual in a quiet, grounding way. They revere Tagyn and her animal lords, particularly Otso, The Bear Lord, whom they view as a kindred soul in both gentleness and wrath. While many Golynn remain neutral in worldly conflicts, others feel a growing pull toward defending the balance between mortal ambition and the natural world.

HUMANOID

Golynn Traits

Size: Medium (7-8ft)

Speed: 30ft

As a Golynn, you have these special traits.

Natural Armour

Your body is covered in thick, keratinous scales. When you aren’t wearing armour, your AC is 13 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armour to determine your AC if the armour you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield’s benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armour.

Powerful Build

You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.

Shovel Talons

Your wide, powerful claws are perfect for creating tunnels and burrows. You have a burrowing speed of 15 feet, but can only use it to tunnel through soft earth, or loose stone.

Drill Dervish

While burrowing underground, you can shift the ground under a creature’s feet, potentially causing it to fall over. If you burrow directly under a Large or smaller creature that is standing on the ground, the creature must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Strength modifier + your proficiency bonus.

Tremorsense

Knowing where the next meal—like a juicy, giant earthworm—can be found while underground requires a specific adaptation. You have tremorsense out to a range of 5 feet. As an action, you can hone your senses, increasing the range of this sense out to 20 feet until the end of your next turn.
