Runic Isles
The Runic Isles was once an archipelago under the reign of Trax, before becoming Eionian territory. It was home to dozens of islands and towns, all with rich history and culture predating the Age of Trax. Now, most of it is post to the sea after the Great Flood. The Runic Isles got it's name from Rune Noveer, a mage credited with saving Galene, Marigold Port, and Oxus from meeting the same fate as it's neighboring islands. For centuries now the Runic Isles have been respected as an independent nation, much to Eione's dismay.
Overview
Structure of Society. The Runic Isles do not have nobles or royals. Their importance is based on their heroics and achievments in life. All are encouraged to seek out a greater career or future, one which would help make the world a better place. In order for people to seek out these opportunities, the Runic Isles spend most of their taxes on schools, like the Towers of Arcadia in Galene. Galene has some of the top magical education out of all Aeziron, and is soughtout from people all over the world. Military/Intelligence. Both the Isles' military and intelligence are made up almost entirely of mages, most of which were trained in the Towers of Arcadia. Their main focus is abjuration, focused on protecting their isles from both outside and inside threats. Their spies also favor divination and enchantment, using it to scry on and interrogate people of interest. Economy and Trade. The Marigold Port is the second most important trading port in all of Aeziron. Arethusians and rarely Mintheans prefer to do their trade here, and have done so for as long as they've been around. In Marigold Port, traders can see all that the Isles have to offer. There is many things to offer from fishery, brewery, herbalism, and so on.History
Eione's Domain (1 AKD--308 AKD). The islands of the Runic Isles are diverse and plentiful, each with a unique history and culture of their own. After the Traxian Empire was driven off, Eione claimed the archipelago as Eionian territory. Galene was the only island Eione truly cared about, and even then they were often ignored by Eionian government. It remained this way for almost two centuries, during which their resentment for Eione slowly festered. The Eionian War (305 AKD). When Eione waged war on Arethusa, they tried to forcibly draft mages from Galene to help. They met much resistance. It was taken a step further when the mages decided to side with Arethusa in the war. They took Eionian troops by surprise, cutting off anyone who tries to pass into Arethusian waters. The Great Flood (307 AKD). When it was clear that Galene and the other isles wouldn't back down, King Finlay Leventis ordered the troops to wipe them out with a catastraphic, magical tsunami. All would've been lost were in not for Rune Noveer, a mage student from Galene. She found out about Finlay's plans through magical means, and warned the other islands. Together, her and the other mages tried to protect the islands with magical barriers. But there were only so many mages who could summon such magic, especially in such little time. As the tsunami hit, only three cities survived. The rest did not, sinking below the ocean surface forever. There were barely any survivors. This act caused Argyrans to eithdraw their support of Eione in the war, and for a small time they were no longer allies. Soon after, Archmage Arabel Leventis mysteriously disappeared. This, as well as many other factors, caused Finlay to end the war. Runic Isles' Founding (309 AKD). After the Eionian War, the isles gained independence. The isles was named after Rune Noveer, who helped save as many people as possible from the Great Flood. Rune went on to help establish the Isles’ government, and was appointed as their leader. She was given the title “Paragon”, a title given by the colleges, to heroes who accomplish amazing feats. Although Rune is still presumably alive, the isles have gone through a few Paragons. They still suffer centuries after from the war, but are trying to rebuild both in number and power. Rune's Disappearance (620 AKD).General Information
