King Finlay Leventis
King Finlay Leventis was one of the two siblings credited for liberating Aeziron from the Archons of Trax. His sister is the late Archmage Arabel Leventis. Ever since Finlay was a young child, be had an affinity for animals. Speaking to marine animals comes naturally to sea elves, but Finlay had a talent for befriending them, often convincing them to help fight by his side.
Arabel and Finlay were raised in the training grounds for the Traxian army. They grew up to be loyal hoplites of the empire. Here, Finlay became a skilled martial fighter, working with both weapons and armor. He preferred fighting up close with a spear in one hand, and a shield in the other.
After establishing Eione, Finlay went on to become the polis’ first king. He eventually married Queen Arina, and together they had a single child, Prince Calyx. When Finlay and Arina eventually died both his title, bident, and pet sea serpent were passed down to Calyx.
Those that know Finlay remembers the confident, ruthless individual that he was. His friendliness at times was often a facade, especially in his later years. He was a cold, yet effective ruler, forever changed by the old Traxian rule. In his much later years, many described him as a paranoid old man.
History
Finlay’s Birth (120 BKD). Both Finlay Leventis and his twin sister, Arabel Leventis, were born the morning of Lyokymion the 8th, 120 BKD. They were born in the polis of Eione, but back then it was nothing more than military training grounds for the Trax. Arabel and Finlay were born to Desma Leventis, a hoplite for the Traxian army. Their father is unknown. With no where else to go, the twins were raised in the training grounds. Naturally they became Traxian hoplites themselves later on in life. Desma’s Death (10 BKD). The life of Traxian hoplites were harsh. When Desma got seriously injured on the battle field, her superiors saw her as a “lost cause”, and left her to die. What little loyalty Arabel and Finlay had for the Traxian died that day. The Twins’ First Victory (6 BKD). For four years the twins silently planned out the demise of their military superiors. At some point this caught the attention of gods like Ephara, Heliod, and Thassa, who decided to support the twin’s goals. With the favor of the gods, Arabel and Finlay killed the superiors that left their mother to die. They rallied other hoplites subjected to Trax’s cruelness, and they seized control of the training grounds. The Bident and the Sea Whip (5 BKD). The twins knew their work wasn’t over. In hopes to aid him along his travels, Thassa gifted Finlay her very own bident, Dekella. With Dekella, Finlay was able to directly command the sea creatures he talked to and befriended. Finlay decided to use Dekella to command a young sea serpent named Acheron. Acheron was as fierce as she was loyal, and in later retellings of the twins’ adventures, she would earn the nickname “The Sea Whip”. March to Arethusa, the Liberation of Mankind (5 BKD). The rebelling hoplites knew their victory would mean nothing if the Traxian Empire retaliated. It was time for things to change, for a new era without the Trax. So led by Arabel and Finlay, the hoplites marched west to Arethusa, the polis of the empire, and where the tyrant Agnomakhos lived. On their way to Arethusa, they made stops at many towns and cities along the way, most notable being Lyria. They helped civilians break free, and amassed an army large enough to fight Trax. Then when they finally made it to Arethusa, they launched a vicious onslaught on the capital. Many people on both sides died. The rebelling army’s main goal was to buy time, while Arabel and Finlay infiltrated the castle. Using weapons and magic granted to them by the gods, they killed Agnomakhos. The rest of the Traxian empire soon followed their leader’s demise. The castle of Arethusa sunk into the ocean, and the archons were driven out of Aeziron. Finally, there was peace. Founding Eione (1 AKD). Together, Arabel and Finlay Leventis established the underwater polis of Eione, built where their old training grounds once were. Although Finlay ruled as Eione’s first king, Arabel still had a vital role she played in the polis. As Archmage, she helped established many laws, before setting her sights on education. Marrying Arina (78 AKD). In 78 AKD, Finlay married Lady Arina of House Drivas. The lady became Eione’s first queen, but she didn’t have much respect from her subjects later until later on in life. Calyx’s Birth (184 AKD). Nearly a century after their marriage, Queen Arina gave birth to Prince Calyx. Calyx was their one and only child. In fear of losing the only heir to the throne, Calyx spent most of his life hidden and protected within Castle Desma. The Eionian War (305-308 AKD). When a new settlement was found in the ruins of Arethusa, King Finlay was incredibly paranoid over it. He sent unarmed emissaries to confront the community, but the Arethusians were incredibly protective. The emissaries met a quick end. Finlay came back with a larger group, attempting to instead drive the community off past Erebos ' Reach. This group also met an untimely end. After another final warning, King Finlay declared war on these new Arethusians. The Great Flood (307 AKD). When Galene refused to give over mages to support the war, it sparked rebellion amongst the isles under Eionian rule. They even began to aide Arethusa. This is when King Finlay decided to take the very drastic measure of wiping the isles out. He issues his armies to conjure massive, deadly waves, which headed right for the isles. A handful of islands were drowned out and lost to sea. Galene, Marigold Port, and Oxus were the only survivors, thanks to Rune Noveer. This action would cause Argyra to pull back support from the war, which was a major blow to the already loosing Eionians. Arabel’s Disappearance (307 AKD). Some months after his sister’s sudden disappearance, King Finlay called off the war, instead putting his efforts and resources into finding her. There was never any sign as to what happened to her, and the King fell into a deep depression. Queen Arina had to step in and make whatever peace she could with Arethusa. Finlay’s Death (440 AKD). In 440 AKD, Finlay passed away peacefully in his sleep. The late king appeared to have died of old age, even though it was expected for him to live almost two centuries longer. Up until her death, Queen Arina ruled alone in earnest. The throne would then be passed down to their only son, King Calyx.Occupation | King |
