Author's Notes

Hello! It's been a while. This article was quite the delve into science. There are some elements of this article that are probably wrong because the science of sound is way more complex than one might think. It's important to note that pitch and frequency are use mostly interchangable in the article because they are functionally the same. The frequency is the period, or wavelength, of a sound where as pitch simply is whether the frequency makes a high or low sound. The other thing to note is that decibels are extremely complicated so everything I say in the article is written to the best of my ability to research. The number 250 may seem a lot smaller than all of the other Cores, but it is in fact equally as insane of a value due to logarithmic scaling; comparing 10 to 250 decibels, the proportion is something in the realm of 1e10:1e200, the latter number of which is likely one of the biggest maximums of any Core yet. I've linked a few of the key articles I looked at below.

Anyway, this is the first article of the year! Stay tuned (hopefully) for more! (4 of 7 Cores). Next up? Either the reworking of The Four of the North into the Five Figures or the final several articles of Resonance (left know, there are Sopactum, Sopactum Core Tattoos, Time, Space, and Resonating Points).

God I've missed this world. Glad to see you back it, my friend. Let's take a gander here...   Right off the bat I like the introduction. It's well written and hooks me in immediately, but that's nothing new and something I always come to expect with your work.   I found a little typo, I do believe. " While the Core of Sound may initially sound appeal," appealing, I think?       Ooo so they can replicate another's language? At first it got me thinking about more than just mimicking someone's voice. Could they understand sound to such a degree that learning another language comes more naturally, or that they could understand a language they dont know by subtle cues in pitch and tone? We shall see but I thought to bring it up.     I got a little confused when reading about replicating the frequency of objects. What goal is that meant to achieve? What happens if they succeed? Maybe I missed that part?     The decibel system and the way its presented is just awesome. I love how you even include famous people who worked on these systems. It's a touch that few people add and only serves to add depth to the world. Well done there.     While reading about occupations I had this image of a sound Resonator just standing by a stage and amplifying the speakers giving speeches one after another. Is that a thing?   "It is common for individuals who choose the Core of Sound to go into politics..."     AHA! You read my mind!     Another awesome addition to an amazing world. It was great to visit again and I hope I can see more soon. Well done. I think you've hit quite of few of the cores by this point. You have what, one or two left? Maybe I'm misremembering but all the same I love this system and it's done with such style and depth. Excellent work as always.       "

Unfortunately, I wound up getting blocked on the next article and have now entered what I will generously dub the "All Work No Play" period of the year where I can't touch anything creative until basically the middle of May. I appreciate you finding the time to look through my article, as always.   Dang spellchecker, why won't you work. So many typos I missed.   Ooh! I hadn't actually considered that. I would say that the ability to replicate the sound itself would be inherent to the Core but a natural inclination to understanding spoken language, and, in particular, how it sounds compared to other languages would simply be the result of dedication to the world of sound. Basically, they'd have the same advantage to learning a new language as an individual who has studied languages learning a new language against a person who doesn't know anything but their native language.   Ahh. That's down to me neglecting to remember a fundamental of generalizing science: definitions. The resonant frequency is the point at which an object naturally vibrates and is thus capable of being disrupted. Therefore, the use of the Core of Sound to find the resonant frequency is similar to the image of an operatic singer matching the pitch of a glass and shattering it. I should explain that in the article though...   I'm glad it hit well. This section was excruciatingly painful to figure out, especially the scaling system matching our world and the whole "how do you quantify sound?" bit.   Another great thought! I think that goes in line with the lower cores probably. I haven't looked at this for a while, but I believe the aiding of others speaking would fall under "serving as aids in order to project and amplify sounds."   Super close. It's three, actually. Plus like a total of seven more articles then my whole magic system is done and I can finally get into the nity-grity bits of preparing a world for novel writing. And we're coming up onto my personal favorite few of the Cores with their nuances—minus the repeating question of "how does one test this Core?" I'm glad you enjoyed! And I still desperately need to get back to reading the Void Between—why, so, must time exist in such scarce volume???
