Vaeril Junius is a Evonian politician, sportsman, explorer and bussinessman. He is considered a popularis, and is one of the prominent members of that faction.

Personal history
Vaeril Junius is the only son of Prisca Junia. He was born in Segesta in 751 IC. The Junii clan trace their origins to Junius, one of the captain of the Expedition from which the Republic trace its birth. As such it is considered a patrician family. For all that the family was impoverished by the standards of Republic high society. Only a few members of the family had achieved high office in the past few centuries.
Vaeril was introduced to society at the age of 20. He soon attached himself to the circle surrounding Valeria Munia and Rhea Lucidia. These three became fast friends.
His friends eventually sought unconventional routs to power. Vaeril meanwhile was set upon climbing the cursus honorum; he would ascend the political ladder.
Vaeril spent decades raising the money and building fame. From 840 to 878 the young man participated in and won several horse-races and won fame for himself. In 880 he joined the navy where he soon distinguished himself in the habitual hunt for pirates, slavers and orcs. He rose to the position of captain by 920. He fought in Great Northern War. In that conflict he rose to national fame when he captured two Myzian Ship-of-the-line during a single engagement.
In the aftermath of the war Vaeril left the navy to go into politics. He was elected Quaestor in 940. In 950 he was elected Aedile. He arranged a number of games in the capital. Including a horse-race in which he participated.
Lacking the funds for another campaign, Vaeril now joined the South Sea Company. He was posted to Penrith to oversee the company's operations in that city. For the next four decades he worked various posts in the company and built up a substantial fortune. He used this fortune to lend money to friends and political rivals alike, gathering a substantial number of clients.
In 992 he left the South Sea Company. Apparently taken by wanderlust he now bought five ships. He sailed west to explore the Shattered Isles. Along with his sailors and soldiers he took journalists and scholars. On his return he was celebrated as a hero of old. His exploits were lauded in the national broadsheets. He then went on to lecture at the University of Axendria, teaching philosophy and law.
In 1013 he stood for one of the 10 praetorships, and won the second one. He took on responsibility for foreign affairs in the government for the next year. It is currently rumored that Vaeril intends to break with tradition and stand for the consulship for the year 1015, instead of waiting the customary decade between magistrates.
Sexuality
Vaeril is famed for his sexual exploits with men and woman. He is sometimes called the "long haired seducer", a reference to the soldiers' belief that a "long haired man is not to be trusted around married women".
Education
Vaeril received an extensive education at the University of Axendria. He excelled in law and philosophy. He was also educated in the military arts, which served him well during his time in the navy.
Morality & Philosophy
Vaeril is a prominent proponent of the popularis position in the Republic. He promotes the view that the Republic is the one truly shining light in a truly dark world. He advocates for the Republic to take a more active role in enlightening the world beyond their borders. Vaeril believes that it immoral for the elves to enjoy wealth, freedom and philosophy when most of the world's population is poor, oppressed and steeped in superstition. He is supportive of the Lucidian movement abroad.
At home Vaeril advocates for electoral reforms, debt relief and extensive social programs for the poor. He seeks to lower the voting age from its current 100 to 40, this to allow the Republic's none-elf citizens a chance to vote in election.
