History

The origins of the elven species is in dispute. The elves themselves claim that they were formed out of the "essence of creation" tens of thousands of years ago. They believe they are "magic given mind". 
The Church of Sol tells another story. In their narrative elves were created by demonic forces, and given pleasant exteriors to hide their wicked souls. According to the Church the elves were unleashed upon the Material Plane as a punishment from Sol. 
The first historical record of elves can be found in dwarven stone writings from the 5th millennium BIC. Here it is recorded that the dwarves encountered an elf-like tribe of people in a forray into the Feywild, and that they traded with these people. 
By the time of the Imperium elves were fairly well attested. However, elves only arrived on the Material Plane in the decades after the fall of the Imperium. 
According to the elves of Evonia, their ancestors arrived on the Material Plane after a very long journey through the outer planes. According to their stories the first influx of elves belonged to a huge mercenary army, fighting in some vast, though on the material plane unknown, war. This army ended up on the losing side in the conflict and was forced to flee. Too large to easily defeat, and too small to win the war on their own, the members of this force fled; chased contineously by the winners, and the natives of the places they visited. Eventually they found their way to the Material Plane where they resolved to make themselves a home. 
The elves came to the island of Evonia in 12 IC. They swiftly expelled the Orcish inhabitants of the island. They established a Republic on the island. In the following years they founded many "sister republics" on the continent. Largely these consisted of single self-governing cities. Elven outposts meant to channel trade back to the mother republic. 
Elves today can be found in many places around the world. Most elves encountered outside the Republics tend to be merchants and sailors.
