Myzian Empire

"Myzia? It is a land where shit-poor villeins feed filthy rich nobles. It's the sort of place where peasants knowtow whenever the village priest or manor-knight rides by; they humiliate themselves in this way, well justified in their fear of being strung up for the slighest sign of disrespect towards their 'betters'. One day we will put an end to this degenerate 'empire', and free its enslaved masses."
— Legate Vaeril Junii.
Myzia is the dominant power on the Island of Ryva. Officially the name of the country is simply "the Imperium", since its Queen Empress has proclaimed that her empire is the Imperium of old, reborn. Its stated goal is to bring all former provinces of the Imperium into its fold.   The rival of Myzia is the Evonian Republic which lies to its west. The two have fought several indecisive wars, and often play out their rivalry in The "Free Cities".

History

Myzia was born during the final days of the Imperium . The great general Eógan rallied the Imperial forces on the Myzian coast. Under his rule imperial law and administration was maintained there. Over time the small kingdom he had created was expanded and consolidated, such that by the beginning of the 3rd century Myzia was the strongest of the human kingdoms on Ryva.

Demography and Population

The population of Myzia is its greatest asset. The total population of the empire is estimated at over thirty million. Myzia is largely a rural nation. Less than one in ten live in towns or cities. The population is most concentrated along the crecent shaped Imperial Bay on the north-western coast. This area was also the heart of the Imperium in ages past.

Military

The Myzian forces are a hodgepodge of forces from different parts of the Empire. The Core forces consist of the Imperial Cavalry and the Imperial Levies. In theory all the country's farmsteads are divided into groups of four. Each group is supposed to train, equip, pay and provide for one infantry soldier; either a pikeman or a musketeer. In reality the system only extends to parts of the country. For wealthier citizens there are many ways to avoid military service.    Even so the Myzian army is vast. During wartime Myzia can field and support several hundred thousand troops, either in fortifications or in the field.    Most feared of all Myzian units are its Heavy Cavalry, and especially the elite the Cuirassiers. These are drawn from the nobility of the nation. Mixed in with these units are mages, giving the Myzian horsemen an ability to deliver shock-and-awe on a massive scale. It also gives these units a flexibility which other cavalry tends to lack.

Foreign Relations

Myzia has generally friendly relations with Khandar. They are also on relativly good terms with the king of Trumm and the Seven Sisters, largely due to Queen-Empress Adeliah's personal friendship with King Argus. The Union of Free Cities is also regarded as a Myzian ally, although the Empire maintains a claim to all the Royal Archipelago.    Myzia's relationship with other countries on the island of Ryva are strained, largely due to Myzia's claim to overlordship over the entire island and all its nations. The dwarves of Valammar and the Grand Principality of Azuel have concluded a military alliance in the hopes of detering Imperial agression.    The Evonian Republic is the traditional enemy of Myzia. It is the stated goal of the Republic to prevent the reformation of the Imperium. The two have fought several wars. In peacetime they work to undermine each other through espionage, economic measures and proxy conflicts.
