Personal history

The second child of Gustaf II Adeliah was never intended to assume the crown. In her youth there was talk of betrothing her to the favored son of The Shahanshah in order to seal the alliance between Myzia and Khandar.   In spring 976 the peasants revolted across the Empire. To shelter against the revolt while their armies gathered the Royal Family gathered in the fortified city of Cyre. During summer unrest grew in the city. A major fire sparked outrage among the lower classes. Prince Sylvester went to calm the crowds. Once there he was killed by mercenaries hired by unknown persons. Folklore would have it that Adeliah watched this happen in horror from the high tower of the keep.   Following the murder a riot broke out in the city. The army lost control and the royals barricaded themselves in the castle. Some days later the peasant host drew near and laid siege to the city. They opened negotiations with the citizenry who now controlled most of the town, and the gates were opened. The castle was stormed, but Adeliah managed to escape in the chaos. Her father was not so lucky. He was killed, and his head displayed upon a pike over the south gate.   Adeliah was now effectively a fugitive in her own Empire. This was the darkest hour for the Myzian monarchy. It was saved through the young Queen's personal bravery and initiative. First she went to the Royal Army gathering near Alachia. Here she appeared before them and demanded their loyalty as their rightful queen. This they heartily did. Adeliah then toured the great estates of the High Nobility gathering support. She convened a council of the mightiest lords and made them a deal. If they gave her absolute power in matters of state, and lent her their armies to suppress the revolt, she would make them sovereign on their own estates. They agreed to this pact. With their support joined to the royal army Adeliah now had an army to challenge the revolt.   Over the autumn and winter of 976 the young queen avoided direct confrontation with the main peasant host, which is purported to have numbered over 100.000 at that stage. Lesser gatherings were attacked by the more mobile Royals, who enjoyed an advantage in logistics and possessed much cavalry. The winter of 976/977 was terrible for the Empire. Crops went unharvested. Internal trade was halted, and the countryside was ravaged by the foraging parties of the contending armies. Feeling turned against the peasantry among many. Chiefly the petty nobility and the bürghers, who had initially been tolerant or supportive of them. Now they too raised men for the Queen's cause.   Throughout the spring and summer of 977 the Queen fought a vicious campaign to stamp out the revolt. Finally as winter neared once more she marched towards Cyre. The peasant army, fearing a siege and confident in their numbers, marched out to meet her. The Royal Army meet the Peasant Host at the Whitetail Woods. Queen Adeliah made a speech to her forces and rode with the cavalry to battle that day, and triumphed. In the evening the victorious Royal marched into the capital. In the morning the decapitated heads of ten thousand peasants were hung around the walls of the city. Adeliah had secured her right to rule the empire.   Adeliah used the next few years to prepare for another campaign. In 980 the Myzians descended upon Cataalii, the ancient kingdom to their south. Eight years of grueling warfare followed, as the cities and castles of that land was slowly reduced. During this time an army was also dispatched to aid the Circle of Magi in the siege of Minden against the Lucidians. In 988 IC the conquest of Cataalii was completed. Adeliah proclaimed the Imperium reborn. "Purified by Sol". In an elaborate ceremony she "married" Sol and was crowned "Queen-Empress".
