Kingdom of Trumm

"Proof that if you carry a big enough stick and use it well you can get just about anything."
The Kingdom of Trumm and Lordship of the Seven Sisters is a composite kingdom located on eight large islands just south of Ryva. It is ruled by King Argus Stonehammer.

Demography and Population

The Kingdom is fairly sparsely populated. The island of Trumm is mostly windswept and flat. Much of the land is dry and unfit for cultivation. Herding, animal husbandry and fishing constitute are the sources of income and nutrition for the majority of the population. There is an area of fertile land on the north coast around the city of Keld, which is the only proper city in the kingdom.  The Seven Sisters, the island chain to the east of Trumm is somewhat more lush. The two eastmost and southernmost islands: Grosa and Medas are overgrown with dense forest. Here only the coastal settlements are controlled by the kingdom, with the interior inhabited by independent tribes. Alboran is the largest of the Seven Sisters and the most densely populated. Unlike most of the other islands it is well suited for agriculture. A third of the total population of the kingdom live on this island alone. There are many towns and villages here, but no true cities.    In total the population of the kingdom and lordship is estimated at around 1 million people. Half on Trumm, a third on Alboran and the remainder divided across the other islands.

Military

The kingdom maintains a small standing force of around 5.000 to garrison its forts and protect the king. The kingdom also maintains a navy of a few dozen galleys to prevent piracy. In times of war a levy can be called to raise more men. However, the kingdom largely relies on guarantees of independence from the Republic and the Empire as its true protection from foreign threats.

Religion

King Argus Stonehammer is an ardent follower of Sol. He has made it his mission to stamp the mark of religion on every aspect of society in Trumm. He has introduced multiple public holidays, mandatory prayers and sacrifices to the calendar. He has ensured the building of several hundred small temples, alongside the construction of a massive cathedral in the capital. Various Solar orders hold great power to enforce religious law in the kingdom. The Order of Spring Blossoms has been granted exclusive rights to perform healing in the kingdom, while the Knights of Redemption hunt illegal magic with passion. The Order of Cleansing Flame have representatives in all towns and cities to ensure religious compliance. All religions save for the worship of Sol are forbidden. There is one exception to this rule; the deist/atheist philosophy of the elves is permitted in private, though not in public.

Foreign Relations

The kingdom is unique in enjoying good relations with both the Myzian Empire and the Evonian Republic. In recent years it has also come to cultivate a friendship with the Duchy of Ciello. These foreign relations are largely built on the king's personal charm and reputation.

Laws

The kingdom has no national laws. Indeed the Kingdom is a composite kingdom composed of several different fiefs, united only by a common monarch. Each island has its own laws and customs. Largely the people of various towns and villages are left to govern themselves from day to day, with the Church of Sol ensuring that religious law is followed. Trumm is often said to be the most more religious than most of its neighbors. Most laws have their root in some religious code. Due to the lack of farmlands and the general poverty the nobility is few in number and weak. As such the king enjoys great power to make and break laws as he pleases. It can be said that on Trumm the law is whatever the king says it is.
