Conquest of Cataali
"This unprovoked invasion of a brother-people will long stain the honour of our nation"The conquest of Cataali was the invasion and subjugation of the kingdom of Cataali by the kingdom of Myzia. It began in 980 IC and the last resistance was crushed by 988 IC.
The Conflict
Prelude
Adeliah I had gained power in Myzia in the years before the invasion. Her power rested upon the support of the High Nobility. A movement advocating the reunification of the old Imperium had gained popularity among the nobility. That this would likely expand their power no doubt helped as well. In 980 Adeliah issued an ultimatum to king Janvier Allard. He would forfeit his crown, of face invasion. The king declined.
Deployment
The Myzians had spent the previous few years reorganizing their military. Placing an increased emphasis on its heavy cavalry, while also expanding their number of common soldiers. The Myzians gathered two armies of 40.000 and a fleet of several hundred warships. These forces marched south.
The Cataali relied largely upon their strong fortifications. The fortress of Triem dominated the Yser pass, the main rout from Myzia into the Cataali heartlands. They reinforced the fortress but did little else.
Triem was set upon by one of the Myzian armies. The other was kept in observation, discouraging the Cataali from interfering. Modern siege equipment and the generalship of the Myzian armies proved decisive. Kingstone fell after just a month of siege, opening the heartlands for conquest.
The Cataali army was outmaneuvered and destroyed without ever being granted the opportunity to truly fight. The remainder of the war consisted of sieges as every castle, town and city were brought under the control of Myzia.
Outcome
The conflict saw the kingdom of Cataali, once one of the major powers on the Island of Ryva utterly destroyed. Myzia proclaimed the Imperium reborn. Adeliah I was crowned "Queen-Empress" of the reborn empire.
