Cataali
The kingdom of Cataali was a kingdom on the Island of Ryva.
Structure
The kingdom was a feudal state with a strong nobility and a relatively weak king. The king ruled with the "advice" of his nobles. The kingdom had a "cortes" composed of all the titled nobles, which the king called together to vote him funds and men when his own resources did not suffice. Often he would have to give concessions in return.
History
The kingdom consolidated in the 3rd century when the first king was crowned. Over the next few centuries Cataali grew in power, becoming arguably the most powerful kingdom on the island of Ryva. It played a vital part in the Elf Wars of the 5th century. The final siege that war saw the addition of the city of Magnis, which was renamed Magnstadt. It became the capital of the kingdom soon thereafter.
The peak of Cataali power came in the 6th century, when the kings of Myzia and the Prince of Azuelae swore fealty to the Cataali monarchs (although this was largely symbolic). Thereafter the power of the kingdom declined. The nobility chipped away at the power of the king. Various vassals grew mighty enough to declare independence. Wars with the Republic destroyed the kingdoms fleet and trade. By the 10th century the kingdom was little more than a Myzian puppet. In 980 queen Adeliah I of Myzia decided to end the charade once and for all. She invaded the kingdom. By 988 IC the last king fled into exile and the kingdom was lost.
