Khatence City

Khatence City is within the Kruthia region. It is the capital of the Actreine Empire, where the three Kings meet to discuss governing plans.
Khatence City has a large marketplace, making it a popular stop for wandering merchants.

Mainly Northern Actreines, though sometimes there will be some Kreshmen merchants travelling through.

Government

Khatence City is officially governed by King Benedict. However, in actuality the governing body of Khatence City is its mayor, who takes their orders directly from the The Vel Tuturi Church.

Defences

There is a large stone wall surrounding Khatence, with each entrance protected by a gate. Each gate has a set of thick metal bars that will drop down and prevent any would-be intruders.

Industry & Trade

One of Khatence's main sources of income is trade. Only Vayzhik is a more prominent trade hub than Khatence, with several hundred merchants coming in and out of Khatence daily.

Infrastructure

There is a massive Vel Tuturi church in the center of the city, large enough to be visible from almost all over the city. Surrounding the temple are several shops, as well as a large bank.
In the southeastern corner is the High Priest's mansion, protected on all sides by a thick sturdy wall.
There are four main gates into Khatence, which are always guarded by four or five Imperial Guards.
Outside of the walls, there are several miscellaneous farms spread across the landscape.

    The Actreine Army is based in Khatence, making conquest of the city quite the daunting task.

    Saugarth's is one of Actrein's most prestigious magic schools, with several classes offered along several pathways.

There are multiple mercenary guilds based in Khatence, though not all of them are licensed.

History

Khatence was once a small village, with a large population of Vel To'ori. For a short time, the village was able to peacefully survive.
However, eventually this peace was forcibly brought to an end when the Tridomatrics raided the village during the night and destroyed many of the buildings. Many innocent lives were lost, with the few survivors frantically evacuating.
During the Great Rebellion, the ruins of Khatence became a secret hideout for Vel To'ori refugees and resistance members. Once the Tridomatrics had been brought down, it was decided to rebuild the village as a symbol of their successful conquest.
Over the time since the end of the Great Rebellion, the village became a more and more popular location to visit, until the village had become a large city. Around 1720, it was decided to make Khatence the capital of the Actreine Empire, and ever since then its population and popularity have been steadily growing.

Architecture

Most of the buildings are built out of stone and bricks, often painted shades of whites and light grays. This is done to avoid the buildings becoming too hot, since the city isn't within a forest.
The Vel Tuturi church in the center of Khatence is built out of white quartz, giving it a somewhat shiny appearance during a clear or rainy day.

Geography

Khatence City is very close to the starting point of the Kridz'vock River. It also isn't very far away from the Whispering Jungle or the Latchmiota Highlands.
Khatence is out in the open, with no forests or mountains surrounding it like some other cities. Instead, it's situated within a large grassy plain, with very small hills.

The Three Kings

Khatence is also used as a meeting-place for the Three Kings. They meet annually with the High Priest to discuss how the empire should be run - what things need to be changed or fixed, and what things are already being done well. Nobody else is ever privy to these meetings, but it's not difficult to know when the meeting is happening.
The meetings are always held in the High Priest's palace, with the doors to the palace securely locked (as well as the gate outside of the palace). The meeting tends to last anywhere from a few hours to a full day, but never any longer than that. After the meeting has ended, the Kings all return to their homes to act out their plan for the next year of ruling the empire under the High Priest's guidance.
