Personal history

Born in a secluded fishing village away from any major trade route to a young basket weaver after she fell madly in love with a charismatic yet ill-intentioned travelling bard. It can be surmised that Findley got his taste for theatrics from his father but it is a known fact that his love of baskets came directly from his mother.   Having never met his father (a travelling Bard must travel), Findley looked to other sources for a fatherly role model. He found it through a mysterious old adventurer that had taken up residence in town for the remaining years his long and storied life. The ex-adventurer taught Findley the ways of the Druid before disappearing, presumably to die alone in the woods.   After the adventurer’s death, without adequate guidance and not wanting to return to the monotony of basket weaving, Findley took his new found skill set and applied it various nefarious activities. It was during an attempt to rob a stagecoach leaving town that Findley met the individual who would end up, for better or worse, shaping the next 10 years of his life. Findley, shapeshifted as a brown bear, attempted to rob a caravan belonging to the notorious Pirate, Cpt. Bronsen BurntBeard.   Cpt. BurntBeard is a testament to the amount of evil deeds that can be accomplished with the right set of skills and magical inclination. His fireballs have decimated enemy ships on multiple occasions. Little is known about his origin or rise to power. BurntBeard took a liking to Findley, be it for his brash confidence to attempt an overtaking of an entire caravan or solely for his ability to shaftshift remains a question to this day.   Findley became a part of BurntBeard’s crew and quickly made an impression as being every bit as ruthless and cunning as the other mates. Findley’s dolphin ambushes were a respected and feared component of BurntBeard’s crew. Years of raids, plunders, and pillages went by in this fashion until during preparations for one of the crews many on the shore hog roasts something changed for Findley.   Maybe it was the old adventurer's teachings had finally found their way to receptive ears, maybe the sight of a basket brought him back the thought of his mother, or maybe it was something as simple as the look in the hog’s eyes as it sat in its cage waiting for tomorrows feast. Whatever it was, Findley had reached a point where he was disgusted with the life he was living. Findley freed the hog and as a final farewell set BurntBeard’s ship ablaze with the entire crew still onboard. A fitting end for a ship that had caused the same fate for countless other seaworthy vessels.   Findley, as a dolphin with his newfound hog companion in tow, stole away into the moonlit ocean towards shore. Findley and a now inseparable Gus have been wandering and working odd jobs since that day, always with eyes on each other’s back.
