Garrett's Valor

Garret's Valor is the ancient battle ground of the great general Garret Lionheart who defended the kingdom of Elysia from the Orc Horde. The people still pride themselves on their valorous heritage although they still tend to be humble salt-of-the-Earth people.

Demographics

The majority of the town is human. Although a few human-centric wood elves and half elves dwell here.

Government

The town is run by a mayor Barthlow Brewer who the village elected.

Defences

The town itself is very poorly defended. Many of the volunteer police were killed in the Autumn Wearwolf attack in 4824. If truly in danger, the town can retreat to an old abandoned castle outside of town.

Industry & Trade

Garrott's Valor's primary industries are forestry and sheep herding, farming, brewing, trinket and jewlery-making. Its primary crops are corn, wheat, barley, apples and cherries.

Infrastructure

Garrett's Valor is very humble village. The most important buildings economically include the sawmill built along a small river nearby which was designed by a young Bobink Steamfizz. The second is the temple of Meilikki whom pilgrims come to pray at on their way to Elysia the capital.   The town's inn, the Ugly Mallard is a famous resting place for the the many pilgrims that pass through. Its stable, however, was badly damaged in a fire that happened last Autumn.   Other shops in the town include a blacksmith, fletcher, and various woodworkers.

History

In the spring 4515 AA during the Orc Horde war, General Garrett Lionheart of the Elysian army set up a forward base on high plane overlooking the strategic river and forests. The goal of this camp was to be the center of command as the Elysians pressed deeper into Orc territory. The orcs not wanting the humans to have a foothold so close to their territory arranged a surprise attack on the still under-construction camp.   What ensued was a bloody 3 day battle, in which Elysian forces where reduced to a mere 50 men, but held until reinforcements arrived. The battle named the same as the town was to be the last major offensive that the Orc Horde made during the war.

Werewolf attack of 4824

(see Werewolf Attack of 4824 )   In the Autumn of 4824, a plague had hit the village causing a handful of deaths. The local sage, Penthos Taggart devised a cure that turned out to be a wolf strain of lycanthropy. Determined to save the whole town, Sage Taggart stole a cloud-making machine from Bobink Steamfizz and weaponized the lycan cure - during a full moon. That night sounds of terror reverberated throughout Garrett's Valor.   A small group of adventurers determined to stop the Taggart and the werewolves went to the castle and destroyed the machine. The next day, the group of adventurers knowing that the majority of not all of the town was infected with the curse, presented a cure for the entire town to drink from. They did not mention that instead of a cure, it was a poison to anyone who was infected. The adventurers disappeared as the mayor and other city officials administered the "cure."   Two thirds of the town were poisoned and died terrible and agonizing deaths. The population of over 500 was reduced to less than 200. Rumors that the offenders had escaped to the capital prompted the town to put up warrants for their arrest so they can be tried for their crimes.   After this conflict, Sage Taggart was never seen again in the town.

Geography

The town is situated on a high plane overlooking the river surrounded by farms and ranches which are then surrounded by a dense conifer forest.

Natural Resources

Garrett's valor benefits from being located close to a nearby forest. The sawmill processes all the felled trees into usable lumber which is then shipped downriver to the sea traders or by wagon over land to the capital.   It also used to be the site of a profitable silver mine; however when the silver lode ran out, the silver business went with it. People still speculate there might be more silver under the forests nearby, but to get to it would mean a very large investment.
