Early Life and The War:

Karl Helfferich was born on July, 22, 1872, he went on after gymnasium to study law and science. By 1902, he entered a diplomatic career and he served later in many major leading roles including director of the Anatolian Railway and in 1908, he became chairman of Deutsche Bank.

During the war, he was Treasury and was also vice-chancellor two times. He was also the ambassador to Russia, succeeding, Wilhelm von Mirbach who was assassinated by Yakov Blumkin and Nikolai Andreyev who were assigned by the Left Socialist-Revolutionaries to reignite tension and sabotage the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk.

During the November Revolution, Karl was heavily involved with the monarchist right and involved with anti-republican group's. A member of The German National People's Party Karl supported, Kapp's government after the Kapp Putsch, which overthrew the Weimar Republic and restored The German Empire.

Role in Civil War and the Restoration of the Monarchy:

He was appointed Treasury again by Wolfgang Kapp, but by May 10, the East fell to anarchy as Communists from Saxony, took Berlin and proclaimed The German Soviet Republic. Karl fled along with the new government to Frankfurt and quickly secured full control of the West, crushing any small Weimar resistance left. This leaving a divided Germany between a Monarchist West and Communist East, as the stalemate continued, leading to the current borders.

The civil war, caused Britian and France to make compromise's. France, had partly mobilized and alarmed Britain, who both nations viewed the recently Putsch as illegal, some even blamed the resulting Communist uprising on Wolfgang Kapp, himself. However, they decided to sent volunteer's to fight against the communist threat in the East (The German Soviet Republic).

The restored empire in the West also inherited the Weimar's Republic debt and economic downturn. In an attempt to combat the increasing hyperinflation, Karl began to delay payment's in order to stop the devaluement of the mark. Karl had already been outspoken in his opposition to the war reparations and the treaty for year's.

Many, within the restored empire, wished to renegotiate the Treaty on grounds of being 'too harsh' and the current German 'economic' crisis. The German National People's Party, also held this position, and it further inflamed tensions between The German Empire, Britain and France.

In September 1920, he was instrumental in convincing The German National People's Party and Wolfgang Kapp to instead support Wilhelm II's son crowing him Wilhelm III. Despite, personally disapproving, Karl wished to the Imperial government to keep receiving support from the France and Britain, who already disliked the new government.

Karl, became to the realization that restoring Wilhelm II was impossible under the current situation, as it mean their current international supporter's would break off and possibly attack. Karl believed, If this were to occur, either the Weimar Republic would be restored or The Communist's would emerge victorious, both options he refuse to consider.

Thoughtout the Civil War, Karl, tried to manage the relation's between paying off the now Franco-British Union and Germany's fragile economic state.

Becoming Chancellor:

The civil war ended, after a ceasefire proclaimed in the beginning of 1922 and after the death of Wolfgang Kapp, in July of that year to cancer. The German Empire still rebuilding, the Monarchists were lightning their grip.

As, a 'hardliner' and staunch far-right monarchist, was chosen to appease the Kaiser Wilhelm III,who appointed him as Chancellor.
