Vinaya's Origin

In another dimension a group of people decided to overthrow the current emperor. They had enough of his cruelty and selfishness. This coup was very successful and almost the entire family of the emperor was killed off. Including his honour guard and most of his advisors and friends.
The only survivor of this massacre was Vinaya. She was brought to safety by loyal servants. These servants used a dimensional protal to escape to a save world. Assassins and bounty hunters found their trail and a long catch and mouse game began. The servants kept traveling to different dimensions. Often when someone caught up to them some of the servants died until finally only few remained.
In their last jump they reached earth and landed in New York City. There a number of their persuers caught up to them and a battle ensued. In this battle all of the servants died.
By cosmic accident Cassidy was close by. She rushed to the scene to see what was going on and found a bunch of human-like beings killing each other. In all this chaos she heard the crying of a baby. She went to protect the baby in the last second has one of the assassins was about to kill the child.
Cassidy was a lot more powerful than all those assassins and she was able to disable them quickly. She ordered the guards who were with her to arrest these assassins and bring them in for questioning. She then brought the baby to her home in Manhattan. Quickly she ordered the staff to organize a nursery, some medical stuff and a baby sitter for her. Within a few hours everything was ready and she gave the baby into the capable hands of the pediatric physician.
Cassidy went with her guards to the assassins and started interrogating them. The assassins were not cooperative so she called on a mind reader under her command to extract the information from their heads. This proved futile as the minds of these people were too foreign to properly read.
One of her advisors eventually established that the assassins came from another dimension using a portal device. Cassidy put that device into lockdown and ordered APU Security to research it and keep an eye out for activations of a similar device in the future.
