Oil prices across the world soared to its highest point in history, with crude oil going for $456 per barrel. The prices dropped gradually till its next spike nearly a decade later. However, the 2047 spike was the first major sign of the upcoming Energy Crisis of 2065. Though most countries did take action, the rate of depletion of crude oil was faster than expected.
The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries dissolved as Russia and the United States of America became the largest oil-producing countries in the world. The most oil was being produced under offshore drilling projects under the United Nations collaborations. Under this new arrangement, it became impossible for the already exhausted oil reserves of the OPEC countries to produce oil at a profitable rate, thus resulting in the collapse of the organisation.
The United Nations collapsed in 2060 as a culmination of rising tensions between the United States, Canada and the Russian Federation. The United States of America pulled out of the United Nations, along with the United Kingdom. This came after decades of condemnation after repeated breaches of the United Nations Charter. The Russian Federation followed suit, accusing the United States of "fostering international hate". Canada followed within the next few weeks, citing the United Nations could no longer "check injustice". Italy and Germany withdrew on the same day as Canada. Post-Italian withdrawal, there was a cascade of countries pulling out of an "obsolete" organisation.
The United States of America launched the New Orleans Project in a bid to discover an alternative source of energy. The result was the famous substance O-142, or as it is commonly known American Oil. The United States of America slowly shifted to American Oil over the years and when the Energy Crisis of 2065 hit the world, they were able to salvage their country with minimal losses. Professor John Doe was the mysterious 21-year old prodigy who led the New Orleans project. His real name and identity are, as of now, a mystery.
Stating an economic crisis, the Kenyan President, Enitan Katleho Wekesa Okeke, publicly criticised its closest partner Russia for not agreeing to provide aid. Being one of the only countries left in the world who would produce oil for the next few years, the Kenyan President stated that he would rather trade with the United States of America. The Kenyan President also stated that he would be moving forward with a "military" agreement between Kenya and the United States of America.
The Kenyan President was assassinated in an armed attack while campaigning in Nairobi.
Following the death of President Enitan, Temitope managed to rally voters using massive funding from an unknown source (suspected to be the Russian Federation). Temitope was a pro-Russian President and despite dismal approval ratings at the beginning of his term, he managed to gain very high approval by the end of his first term. However, the approval polls were conducted by his own government and thus the accuracy of the same cannot be confirmed.
After a bloody two year civil war, Kamau Mtendere Okeke has appointed the head for a "transitional" government, which kept power for a full 20 years till displaced by rebels.
Nearly 100,000 troops were mobilised on the DRC-South Sudan border, consisting of DRC, USA and US-allies. The first shot was fired at 10:00 AM on the 17th of March by US troops. Though some initial resistance was put up, by the 19th of March South Sudan feared a full-scale invasion. The government agreed to the U.S. demands to cede to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Ethiopia, Algeria, Libya, Somalia, Uganda and the Central African Republic form the United African Nations. The United African Nations are a group that follows a policy of "non-alignment". The countries pooled in resources to form the United African Forces, an armed force at the disposal of the United African Nations.
The Kenyan invasion of Tanzania was a short affair as Russia troops airdropped in Tanzania to support the Kenyan advance. Post-surrender, a puppet government was installed.
Zimbabwe and Kenya entered a non-aggression treaty following the Kenyan invasion of Tanzania.
The Democratic Republic of Congo demanded the secession of Sudan. When Sudan refused, the United States held a private meeting with Sudanese leaders. By the end of the meeting, Sudan had agreed to secede.
