Enitan Katleho Wekesa Okeke assassinated

Life, Death

The Kenyan President was assassinated in an armed attack while campaigning in Nairobi.

With the recent Kenyan situation, Russia had very quickly lost ground in the African region. The Kenyan elections of 2066 were mere days away and Enitan was campaigning for re-election in Nairobi. Being a popular leader, a landslide vote was expected. This meant that an attack on Enitan was expected, as this would clear the way for other candidates to win. Therefore, as Enitan campaigned through Nairobi, he travelled with an armed convoy. The convoy was hired from a private security firm and consisted of an armoured car (in which Enitan was travelling), an armoured troop-carrier and two Humvees. At approximately 3 PM, Enitan halted the vehicles near a public gathering to address the people. Here is where the attack happened.   A small group of nearly 20 men engaged the vehicles from the East and the South. Using an IED, the men disabled one of the Humvees. As Enitan's convoy proceeded north, their path was blocked by an AFV. With fierce firefighting, Enitan's vehicle was evacuated in the only direction possible, West. This area was not cleared by security as well as the other routes as this was a route they had not expected they would be forced to use. Enitan was evacuated from the car and with a personal detachment of soldiers proceeded on foot as the vehicle proceeded West. The vehicle was neutralised by another small group of armed individuals with a rocket launcher.   The Kenyan military and police had launched into action as soon as the attacks had begun on the President. A recent law prevented them from taking charge before the attack as he was campaigning for the upcoming elections and could not use government resources. However, now they could intervene as the President was under immediate threat. The Kenyan military secured the region within an hour of the attacks. Enitan was, however, found dead in one of the alleyways. Three members of his security detail were found dead next to him. A fourth member is said to have escaped and is believed to be a mole inside the security detail. Ares Security has made no comments regarding the identity of this person.   Ufuoma Temitope, a rival candidate, was believed responsible, but lack of evidence meant he could not be arrested.
