The United States of America launched the New Orleans Project in a bid to discover an alternative source of energy. The result was the famous substance O-142, or as it is commonly known American Oil. The United States of America slowly shifted to American Oil over the years and when the Energy Crisis of 2065 hit the world, they were able to salvage their country with minimal losses. Professor John Doe was the mysterious 21-year old prodigy who led the New Orleans project. His real name and identity are, as of now, a mystery.

In 2061, the United States of America launched the New Orleans Project as a response to the shut down of multiple oil drills across the world due to lack of funding. The main targets of the project were to discover a means for the United States of America and its allies to survive the energy crisis that loomed ahead. The project was led by a mysterious figure named Professor John Doe by the media. The only information released about him was his age, which at the time was 21. In 2061, Professor John Doe and his team of 125 scientists were gathered in a state-of-the-art facility in New Orleans and thus the quest for an alternative fuel began. After thousands of failed attempts, the teams finally managed to produce O-142, the future of the United States.   After nearly two years, the United States of America announced the project a success. A steady stream of American Oil started pouring out of the facility and various "O-142 facilities", commonly called Oil Factories. American Oil almost completely replaced the other oils that were being used prior to 2065. The formula is a closely guarded secret known only to the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Production is done on a need-to-know basis and few countries have come close to achieving the level of success the United States has in producing a synthetic line of oil so effective with the existing infrastructure.   Though the exact process and materials remain unknown, it is common knowledge that the Oil Factories depend on other countries to supply certain raw materials.
