A force for change, and the same again

by Hildar Stormchild

So there I was, upon the steps of the library with frald and pondering if this city held anything except dusty old tomes, when a shout from Kauri drew my attention back inside. She had spotted the air begin to twist in two, and some foul demons clambered out of the rip in space. Then, with a great sense of unworthy granduer (given the last time we saw it) a huge green monster climbs into the library. The greed, from less than two months ago, was back and I was damned if I was going to let it stay for long after we tried so hard to get rid of it the first time. My companions seemed to agree wholeheartedly, and I can't say I didn't feel a thrill as we fought. To feel the power of the everstorm at my fingertips, in it's purest form: destruction.
It seems I learnt more than I thought from Yitril, as I don't remember Balthzar teaching me to kill with such... joy. Make no mistake, we killed man and beast with impunity, but it was because we had to, because that's how it works on the isles. And yes, the everstorm destroys as chaos destroys, but this was a tool it used against us rather than something we needed to emulate. One day I will find why Yitril has taught me this new path, but first I shall see where this new love for power takes me, and may the storm guide me.
I could never have faced the greed alone, either. It was good to have every member of our tribe there, and some of them took more than their share of the effort. Perhaps I will be less keen to fight when I remember how it feels to be hurt, but for now I shall enjoy being in the tiny storms I can create, they feel like a pocket of nature in this unnatual city. Although this city may not stay for long, our presence has weakened the barrier that protects it. We shall, apparently, be doing all we can to fix it, but I have neither hope nor care if it will succeed. It's up to wraith, and whether he can sweet-talk an orb.
