Spring storm {historical}

by Hildar Stormchild

We'd been moving between the towns to the south west of Reus for a few months when she told me. She had met someone, got to know them in the town tavern as I slept every night under the stars, and she was moving to stay with him. With her eyes fixed firmly on the ground she told me she was keeping Harry and the wagon, as well as most of our shared gold, because they needed it to help them buy a house. I knew it was too good to last, that the everstorm would eventually toss me away from her. I curse this place, I curse him for catching the snowflakes that I was dancing with.
So I left her there, and headed to Reus, and north, in the hope that walking that way would make this latest rejection seem less potent. I tore through the bush as the sky darkened and the heavy rain started to fall. Eventually stopping to fashion my sopping self a shelter, I thanked the spring storm for reminding me of my path. Do not fall prey to the comforts of this soft life, it is not for you, Stormchild.
It does not matter the tears I shed over everything I lost, what matters is I stay true to my birth, to Mellca's ancient words, and go where the wild winds take me.
