article word-count writing
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
The current article word count includes tags, hidden comments and CSS formatting. For a lot of superusers or heavy writers they would not even bat an eye at this, I mean 3500 words or 3600 words.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
This feature request highlights how important this will be for new user on-boarding who may not realize how everything works and for a user that just expects something to work. I am recommending a couple of approached below I know you will have better ideas.
1. Remove as much superfluous words from the words count as possible to true-up the word count. Keeping in mind I am not recommending that the words count be absolutely 100% accurate only closer. The CSS styling box should be removed from the word count. The BBCode word count will most likely be much harder. Maybe known tags like bold, h1, h2, /* etc. But this I trust the expertise of the World Anvil Forge Master.
2. Separate the word count displayed at bit for example ...
Example One
Content Words 628
CSS Words 100
Example Two
Content Words 628
Main Content 528
Sections 100
CSS Words 100
What are other uses for this feature request?
This request is less about the exact method for doing this and more about showing the interest in this. So please in your comments post ideas and feedback to make this feature request shine.
Notes
This feature request would be considered a follow-up on
this feature from October of 2021. This feature request had the following stats which shows a significant interest but not enough to reach the threshhold, and I think we can do even better!
