food medicine items template-improvement

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

I've kept an eye on others' food-related template requests, and figured I might as well submit my own suggestion (based on the idea that it can all fit in the Item template fine, and on being specific).   Currently, trying to detail a food item (or a medication, for that matter) requires either shoehorning the Item template or using up to three individual templates (Item, Tradition, Document). While I cannot speak for others, this directly inhibits my workflow and feels clunky (and prior suggestions for Food/Cuisine templates gathered a whole ton of support).   For people who wish to say 'but you can use code!': Technically yes, but I don't have the time to make code templates and neither do I have the energy or expertise. And coders are expensive (rightly so). As such, this is for people who, like me, have limited time, energy, funds, and resources.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

By adding more prompts to the Item template (and perhaps also a new tab, so as to keep stuff organized), it makes it easier to find appropriate prompts (which double-up to serve as reminders for what to consider when creating something) for a food item (some of these suggested prompts are for medicinals, as there are few enough that I didn't feel they warranted a whole new suggestion thread).

What are other uses for this feature request?

Some of the prompt suggestions can function for other types of items, such as the date something was invented on. If any of the suggested prompts here were already suggested and accepted, my apologies, I just have limited time and energy to go hunting through threads to try finding everything already accepted, declined, or in progress (I did look through the road map).     So without further ado, here's the suggestions:     New Item Template Tab: Consumables (should cover food, medicine, potions, and whatever else, as few to none of the suggested fields below seem like they'd fit smoothly in any of the pre-existing tabs of the Item template).   New Item Template Type: Consumable, Other (for all the miscellany that might not warrant their own individual types, but which don't fit elsewhere - this would include specialized poisons, for example, such as the infamous poison pill that some fictional characters have between their teeth).   Food-related Prompts:
  • Preparation (How the food is put together or how the medication is made/prepared for use - the current fields in the item template feel like shoehorning when used for these consumables.)
  • Ingredients (Self-explanatory.)
  • Related Traditions/Rituals/Festivals (Self-explanatory. Could potentially fit under Generic instead of the proposed Consumables.)
  • Related Locations (Some foods or medicines are found only in specific locales and not elsewhere - the current Location field in the items tab is for current location only, which makes it not so usable for something that has more than one of itself and is used by many people. If a field already exists for the purpose of this suggested field, then it is not intuitively named and should be renamed or given a clarifying description.)
  • Date of Invention/Discovery (Couldn't find this anywhere in the existing Item template, but I could've also just missed it. This field would be useful for pretty much any item. This field I can see going into the Generic tab rather than the proposed new Consumables tab.)
  • Other Related Items (This would be a multi-input dropdown field, allowing someone to link articles for the ingredients used or the items in which it is used.)
  • Effects When Used/Consumed (This is completely absent from the Item template, and is useful for a good many items.)
  • Related Cultures (Another multi-input dropdown field, for people to select which cultures they wish the item to link to - and perhaps the Culture template could have something where 'related items' show up under.)
  • Preparation Time (A sidebar thing so people can tell at a glance how long they can expect it to take (whether minutes, days, or years), which can be useful for keeping order of events straight in story writing, or giving the players of a campaign some important information when it comes to planning during adventure downtime (some GMs/DMs may keep meticulous track of time and require players to carefully time-manage what their character does during downtime). Could also instead name this Creation Time and place it under Generic, so as to be more readily used for other kinds of items.)
  • Special Requirements (A field for stuff like 'must be prepared under the full moon, or is worthless,' or 'can only be prepared by a chieftian ordained by the God of The Great Mountain,' or 'requires extensive training or could kill the consumer,' or the like.)
  • Variations (Stuff like minor variations between how different peoples make or produce the item, but which are a bit too small to include in other fields without causing needless clutter (this field would be shown at the bottom of the article, just above the footer) - could be put under the Generic tab.)
  • Shelf-life (How long the item lasts after creation - many foods and medications have expiry dates, and sometimes magical potions and the like also have expiry dates depending on the world.)
  • Status (Whether lowborn, highborn, or 'only naive outsiders' consume/use this item. Is it a delicacy? Is it bottom-of-the-barrel street food? Might not be the best name for this field. I can see this fitting in the Generic tab rather than the proposed new Consumables tab, as it could also fit items such as expensive watches or barely-functioning car models.)
  Medication-related Prompts:
  • Safe Dosages (For instance, 'don't give more than 10cc per 20 lbs. body weight,' or the like.)
  • Overdose Symptoms (Self-explanatory and a majorly important part of any discussion about medicine or drugs.)
  • Branding (In some more modern worlds, the same drug is labeled under many different brands - this may also be relevant for foods and a few other things for modern or futuristic worlds as well. Note that a brand can be different than the 'owning organization' - an organization can own many different brands, so the pre-existing 'Owning Organization' field does not fit this. I can see this field fitting in the Generic tab rather than the proposed new Consumables tab.)
  • Counter-Indicators (Conditions, symptoms, and other factors that will tell a doctor to not give this to someone they otherwise should give it to - such as a history of mental health issues being a counter-indicator for giving someone laughing gas as a sedative, as laughing gas can exacerbate some mental health problems, among other things.)
  Magical Consumables-related Prompts:
  • Form (Potion, Cracker, etc., preferably put high on the sidebar, so campaign players can quickly see what type of resource this item is without having to include 'Potion of X' in the title of the item.)
Other Prompts (that I am including simply because it's so small I don't feel it warrants a whole 300 coins on its own):
  • Patenting (Useful for a wide variety of items, probably best fits under Generic.)
Note: I only included so many prompts because saving up coins takes several days, making it more efficient to include as much as possible in one suggestion. Additionally, by making this as comprehensive as possible, it is hopefully specific enough to be clear and of use. If even only some of these fields could be added, it would be greatly appreciated, but I understand if not all of them can be due to time constraints.
