sidebar global default global-default
I would like to suggest a global option to choose the default sidebar in articles being ‘on’ or ‘off’.
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
When you create any article, the sidebar is ‘on’ by default. Yes, it is true that nothing shows in the sidebar section until content is placed into that section, but a lack of content throws the aesthetics off. A blank sidebar still exists, leaving a ‘gap’, unless the sidebar function is unchecked.
That’s a lot of constant clicking back and forth to make sure the sidebar is turned off for people like myself.
What about those who don’t use or rarely use sidebars in their theme/world? People who prefer to build sections themselves as needed? The ability to turn the sidebar ‘ON’ (per individual article) would be more helpful to Anvillites like us.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
Creating a global default option to CHOOSE the sidebar would solve this challenge. This option cuts the time/frustration of having to constantly turn sidebars off.
What are other uses for this feature request?
Not sure there are other uses. This option affects the creation of every article made on WorldAnvil. This feature is just allowing the other side of the community the ability to choose their preferred default.
Follow up
From TJ's vote below, I can see that the title should be "Sidebar ‘OFF’ by CHOICE" instead of default -- as I am not asking for WA to change the default setting....only to give us the option to change that setting. Thank you, TJ, for sharing that.
The more I see comments, the more I notice a lack of understanding of this request. That said, I'd like to clarify in another attempt to help voters understand what is being asked for.
I am asking for CHOICE.
Not a change to anything that already is -- but being allowed to ADD THE CHOICE to set the default that serves YOU, the world owner/creator -- to whatever YOU prefer.
If that's to leave things as they are, YOU DO NOTHING. But if you need the opposite, like I do, you can CHOOSE that as well.
This is all about choice, that's it.
